Great series of shots! Picture tells a thousand words. Glad your ordeal is over. The track frozen in the mud had to be the low point (next to it sinking deeper) . After what I went through getting my master link out, I was impressed that you could slide a new one in by hand. Good job. Now it's...

Lavoy, I don't know if it's THAT bad, but it'll definitely have to be addressed. Here's a chart I found somewhere on the net. Maybe the chart is off. Machine Model New Percent Warn Chart 25% 50% 75% 100% mm in mm in mm in mm in mm in John Deere 420, 430, 440, 1010 584 23 586.5 23.09 589.5 23.2 593 2...

Thanks guys, Hopefully this weekend I'll get to see how badly encrusted the rear crossbar is. Then I can go to work on the front. On the issue of tracks, Lavoy, do still have any stock left in pins and bushings for the 440's? I measured across five pins and got 23 1/2". :( That equates to 50...

Lavoy, quick question on track rail removal...

Lavoy, I read what you've said about cleaning out the area behind the spring with a power washer before trying to remove the track rail assy. My question is, with the front crossbar bolts removed, can the rail be rotated up at all to loosen things before sliding the assy off? Have you ever tried rot...

440 Steering and assorted repairs...

This is as far as I got on my first full day tearing everything apart. http://www.jdcrawlers.com/uploads/tractors_007.jpg This is the right side front crossmember mount...yes, there was only one bolt on top that was coming out and the one directly underneath was bent downward almost out of the slot....

Tigerhaze, I don't know if this will fit your situation but when my neighbor threw a track on the 440 he was having a hell of a time getting enough slack to put it back on the front idler. Problem was all the slack was being eaten up by the soft ground underneath. I told him to stick a couple of 8x8...

Bill, The pictures are an awesome look at what the manuals will never be able to give you. Keep posting and don't worry about too much detail. We can always switch the channel if we get bored but I don't think anyone is quite there yet. Besides, this beats all the lame shows on tv anyway! Are ...

Brian,
It looks like you have your work cut out for you (no pun intended). By the way, what's the lever on the right side of the console? Was that hooked up to the reverser at some point? Do you not have a reverser or is it not operational? Just curious. Good luck as you go.

I also recently removed my 1st set of tracks from a crawler(1010). Tried a few whacks with a 20lb double jack, but did not like the stress placed on the sprocket(had the master pin located as shown in manual). I removed one cleat and took some mesurements then proceded to make a pin removal jig. Af...

Unfortunately Ebay seems to have become scam central. When you see an item bid up to 400-500% in just a matter of minutes and then as soon as someone different bids $0.50 higher the rest of the bidders take a powder. Like Lavoy said, know what the realistic price is, know what you're willing to pay ...

Gary, I had a similar problem with my 310 case. It would start up fine and seemed to run fine until you needed real power. It had an inline auto type fuel filter when I bought it and it didn't appear to be clogged. However, after a week of having it die on me I took the carb off and opened it up. Th...

Bill, Awesome pictoral. For someone who's never seen the insides of a 1010, a picture tells a thousand words. I can sympathize with you on the steering arm repair. I have a 1959 Case 310 B with what was a quick release backhoe (four mount points) until some joker decided it was easier to weld one of...

Stan, Thanks for the flash-back! Just when I thought I'd gotten over the semiconductor manufacturing theory course I had taken years ago, you bring up things like "holes". Next willl be the relevance of mhos to ohms and hole mobility flow as it pertains to the p-n junction! :x It too...
