I also have the DB pump. Why might the injector pump freeze up? I finally got mine off and it snapped the drive shaft at the narrow section. Any recommendations where I can get a drive shaft? I've looked online and have found pumps, but they apparently don't come with the shaft. Thanks

Early vs Late model

What's the year cut off for early vs late model for the technical support forums? Want to make sure I'm in the right section. Think my earlier post was moved.

Thanks jdemaris, that really helped. took the timing plate off and turned her over, nothing turns or moves inside :( . Did a little more cleaning and found an info plate. Is this something I can rebuild myself? I am a bit of a tinkerer. Will I need a manual to show me how to reassemble? Or is it bes...

There's a split pin that holds the large pin in place. Mines rusted away and I could lift the large pin out with my fingers until the bottom of it started into the ram hole as the pics show. http://i1161.photobucket.com/albums/q509/DDPJ1/pin1.jpg http://i1161.photobucket.com/albums/q509/DDPJ1/pin2.j...

The pump appears to have either been rebuilt or replaced as some point in the past. It has a Sierra Injector Inc. Reno NV sticker on it. So, I'll need to pull the cover off in front of the injector to see if there is a shear pin?

How do I insert a picture?[/img]

injector pump failure?

Started my 350 dozer today and it started just fine. I did add 5 gallons fuel to the tank. Backed her up and started forward down the driveway and got about a hundred feet before she died. Would not start again. I'm getting fuel to the injector pump, it squirts out with good flow when cranking. But ...

I'm going to put the same hydro oil that I use in the hydraulic system in the tranny. John Deere apparently doesn't mean an 80/90 gear oil that you'd use in an auto manual trans. The Reverse direction box is its own unit with its own hydraulic pump, so I can see using hydraulic fluid in it. I'm defe...

Got curious, and since I changed the hydraulic oil thought I should check the tranny and reverse direction. The tranny had water in it, so am draining it. The drain plug is located on the bottom at the rear of the tranny, just below the PTO shaft exit at the back of the machine. There is a hole in t...

I've looked through my manual and could not locate a picture the shows the actual location of the transmission drain plug. The book just says to drain the transmission. This leads me to believe there is a drain plug. You will probably need to drive the machine over a pit. If there is not a hole in t...

Wow, what a difference clean filters make. The hydraulics are so quiet now I have to watch the blade to make sure it's moving :). Thanks KenP for pointing the filters out and to check them first. That's the first thing I think of when trying to diagnose a fuel problem. And thanks to the rest of you ...

cdunn, my machine is a dozer and has both the filters described in my manual which is a loader manual also. The wire mesh filter is in a housing as shown in the picture in the manual and is located forward in the reservoir where it gets narrower. You won't be able to see it unless you drain the oil....

Update. I did manage to get the filter cap off. It would have been nice if the manual had said it was pushed onto a pipe with an O ring. I was smart enough to pry evenly on both sides and lift the cap off without damaging anything. And the filter element was laying in the bottom of the reservoir. Th...

Thanks for the replies. As stated, the first thing to do is check/change the filter element and clean the mesh filter. Thank you for bringing this up, I'm having brain farts in my old age. I've removed the six bolts on the filter cap on top of the reservoir tank, but it will not lift out easily and ...

Making sure your electrical connection are clean and tight is a very good start. You might also try a dip stick heater or clamp on oil pan heater. Keeping the oil warm in cold conditions can improve engine starting and reduce wear and tear.

My two cents worth.
