I know the 350s only put strips on the bottom, maybe the 450s are different (the parts book only calls for a qty of 4 strips?) It would make sense as that area on the track frame would wear some over time. However even the new JD 650Hs and Cat D5Gs only put strips on the bottom, but they dont make s...

450

the piece in the 3rd picture is a wear strip for the track frame. however it doesnt belong on the top it actually goes on the bottom side of that channel. The idler yoke has bolt on wear strips (pieces of 4140) that are supposed to ride against these under the weight of the crawler. These are adjust...

pipe plug?

Not 100% sure but i thought 350As and Bs (i know a C does) both have a pipe plug on the inside of the lower pan, parts book shows one too.

Reverser Rebuild

If the unit has had low pressure problems(or slippage) definetley do the clutches, you can inspect the pump as well. The pump sits out in front of everything you can actually remove it without removing the reverser from the crawler. Its a gerotor style (or a gear in a gear) typically these pumps don...

There is a clutch pressure regulating valve underneath the valve body its the 2nd one from the front. Its adjusted via shims You could remove the valve and make sure its ok However if you had a problem with your clutch pedal id assume that you either have a problem in the linkage to the valve or the...

Reverser Clutch Pressure

The port you want to check is above where the Forward /Reverse rotary valve is on the reverser control valve. It is 1/8" NPT . The valve is on the left side of the machine under the floor. Depending on your serial number the pressure should be as follows 120 +/- 10 PSI up to s/n 278391 on machines a...

pipe

Dont see why it wouldnt work. The track frame will be that much lower than it used to be in relation to the crossbar but i dont think that it matters much. It may wear out the pipe faster depending on how hard the pipe is but it still sounds like a good temparary fix to get you dozing before winter.

The track frame saddles are still availible from Deere i think theyre about 300 a side, which isnt too bad considering the only alternative would be to line bore them which is really expensive. I think youve got the right idea about building up and turning down the bar itself unless you could find a...

bracket?

is that bracket for the backhoe rops?? the standard rops mounts on the top of the loader frame (which you have the brackets for as well). but i thought the backhoe rops came down the side of the loader and mounted in a rubber bushing.

Idler

Dont mean to be nosey but what is "pricey?" I got a loaded idler from Deere for around $400. Funny thing is now the idler is "no longer availibly through JDparts.com" Also it wouldnt hurt to get those 2 grease seals and the yoke to track frame shims and wear strips while your in there.

450 engine

Im pretty sure the B models were turbocharged. I think it would be a 4239?? Mother Deere offers an overhaul kit , which has piston and liners pre-assembled. Price through JDparts is about $875. I couldnt see doing all that work without changing the injectors too. Im assuming youd be sending the head...

Ripper

The ripper needs to come off to get to the final. The mounting bracket specifically. There are 2 3/4" (1 1/8" wrench) bolts going upwards through the (loader frame?) to the bracket . (Not sure if its a loader or dozer). And is has 4 bolts in the back bolting it to the final drive. However to get thi...

Im not familair with the 450s but I beleive the 350s have a similar setup. If the bolts that broke were loose when they broke the easy out might work otherwise theyre a waste of time. You could try the pipe trick however I've had better luck using a nut. Just use a nut thats smaller than the OD of y...
