350 issue

Was grading the potholes out of the driveway today with my 350 diesel. Went to park the machine and it sounded kind of funny when I idled it down (Kinda like it had a miss). Shut the key off and the dozer kept running . Turned off the battery kill switch and it kept running. Tried to throttle it up ...

I think I'll try it out and see. If they aren't that good, I'll just have to order them from John deere.

service manual

I have been looking around for a service manual for my 68 350 dozer. I found one here for $57.00: http://www.davenporttractor.com/p-121-john-deere-350-crawler-service-manual-sm2063.aspx Is there any reason this wouldnt be as good as a manual from Deere? Has anyone else purchased one from here? Seems...

Thanks for the help. Every time I pull the dipstick up for the reverser it has a light film that covers the entire dipstick so I cant actually tell what the fluid level is at. I have not changed the fluid or filter yet. I have not tried pushing anything in 3rd or 4th to see what it does yet.

66 350 problems

I have a straight 350 that I recently picked up and am trying to work out a few kinks. I noticed that the main hydraulic pump has a leak coming from where the drive shaft is. Is there a seal there that can be replaced or do I have to buy/rebuild the pump? Also, in second gear sometimes the machine j...

Final Drive Seal

I just tore apart the final drive on my 68 350 because the bearings and seals were shot. Everything else appears to be ok except the axle shaft wore the case on the very outer edge where the flange was rubbing. I cant figure if that is where the outer oil seal goes or if it us the next ridge in on t...

Ok, I pulled the track and skid off tonight. Found out there is lots of slop in the final drive and one bad roller. I'm assuming the bearings are shot in both. Guess I'm going to have to pull the final drive and see what everything looks like inside and see if its rebuild able. Anything I should loo...

If the round shaft/groove is wore out, can I just build it back up by welding it or spinning the shaft around? Also, how to you check for a bad roller?

Rear sprocket hitting lower roller

The rear sprocket on my 350 is hitting the lower roller causing the track to lock up. I checked the bearings in the final drive and they appear to be good. Has anyone ever experienced this or know what the problem might be?

My First 350

I just bought a 350 Serial # T4F3D 084551T. Am I correct in thinking this is a 1968 straight 350? It has a 6 way blade, 3 cylinder diesel, 4 speed trans with reverse and a reverser lever on the dash.
