caulking pads

Scottyb has a post somewhere on here about using 5/8 diameter grade 8 bolts installed through holes in 350 loader pads for ice traction with good effect.

Corking

I corked my straight 350 loader with 1x3 inch grouser bar. Did every pad alternating 2 and 1 (54 corks per side) which was probably overkill. Stitched them on with a 180 amp mig welder running off a 6 kw generator with .035 flux core wire, no preheat. They are all still there 7 years later. Gets aro...

Wide track loader

7 feet is definitely wider than normal. My 350 loader is 60 inches (5 feet) wide from outside of 1 pad to outside of pad on opposite side with 12 inch pads and bucket is 60 inches as well. If you look on the show and tell section JWB contracting has some photos of their 350 loaders converted to wide...

Synthetic rope on winches

I will second what B town said about using various rope alternatives on winches. We use a number of kevlar variants for longlines to sling under helicopters with. They are very light and handle much nicer than steel and are quite durable in straight line pulls, however they are very intolerant of ab...

New to you 350

From the before photos it looks like your steering clutch housing was cracked. Did you weld it or replace it? If you welded it, how did you do it? Congrats on a very nice rebuild.

450C

Hi Alton and welcome to the forum. My 450C is about 60 miles away right now so I can't look to confirm but I think there is a good chance you could drop the sump housing off the final drive without removing the track. Try posting in the late model crawler support as this is where your machine belong...

450C hydraulics

It is not uncommon for the splined coupling that connects the hydraulic pump to the pump drive on the engine to fail. If it worked 1 minute and not the next this is a likely candidate. If there was a slow noticeable decline in hydraulic performance it may be the pump.

inside vs outside dozer

What you have is an inside mounted dozer because the dozer C frame or push arms are mounted inside of the tracks. On a normal (not wide pad) undercarriage the blade would be smaller, 6 feet wide I think and not as rugged as an outside mount because a lot of the blade projects beyond the mounting poi...

350 widepad

JWB contracting is a frequent poster here with extensive knowledge of wide pad machines. In addition they have a large fleet of parts machines and would be good candidates to answer your questions and supply parts. They are near Edmonton Alberta so you get superior purchase power with your US dollar...

450 transmission troubles

A few years back I had my 450C out in the back 40 just returning it to its parking spot when it just coasted to a stop with the gentlest declutch ever. No bad noise or lurch. I pulled the seat and looked for obvious issues with linkage, tried all gear combinations, nothing. Came back the next day an...

What model 350

When you lift the seat up and look at the top of the transmission what do you see? If it looks like 2 short hydraulic cylinders you likely have a 350B or even a late model 350 straight with boosted steering and dry clutches. If it looks like a small hydraulic manifold then you most likely have a 350...

JD450 loader weight

Murphy tractor shows a 1969 straight 450 loader with 1000 pound counterweight and no canopy as 15900 +/- pounds. Backhoe attachment with bucket and all associated mounting hardware is around 3000 pounds.
Loader - counterweight+ backhoe will be around 18000 pounds likely plus a canopy

Reverser leaking

Most likely you have a bearing packing up inside the reverser which often manifests itself first by taking out the front seal on the reverser because the input/pump drive develops excessive play. As the situation worsens you get the delayed engagement. This is where my 350 is at now, parked and wait...

Backhoes for a 350

I have one of the Case trencher hoes that Jason and his Dad modified to fit a 350 and I like it much better than the JD 92 hoe it replaced as it is probably 500 or more pounds lighter. It has good digging power and will dig to 8 feet deep and my 350 behaves much better when packing it around. With t...
