I've decided to approach this with a realistic attitude. I will determine if I can find an engine for a reasonable price, or get this one sleeved without too much cost, I will go that route. I won't worry about the rest of the crawler until it breaks. I've decided to name my crawler Zombie. It will ...

More pics added

I finally had time to upload a few more pics of my 440 engine. Looks like it's sleeve time. http://s1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff498/smorto12/ The air cleaner inlet was the culprit. It filled the entire air filter, carb and intake to the top. The hood rubbed a hole in it, and over the years, every ...

Rebuild or part out, Part 2

Hey all, I finally got my dad's 440 out of his pasture, and home. Been a long process. The left steering brake still works, that was the only one that worked 15 years ago when this thing got parked. I spent about 4 hours pressure washing everything I could get to, then started working on evaluating ...

Got the serial #, 445306. Guess that makes it a 1959. I talked to my Dad about it more today. He has a manual, somewhere..... The engine was rebuilt in 1979. I remember grinding the valves in my college automotive class. My Dad said he had the trans rebuilt at the same time. Why he didn't fix ...

Thanks all for the insight and wisdom. I believe I will get the crawler to my place, then give her a good inspection. This may have to wait till the field drys out a bit. I'm leaning toward rebuild, but want to check out the under carriage, final drive, and steering.

Assuming I go ahead with the repair, Does anybody have a line on a running, or rebuild-able gas engine? How much should I expect to pay?

Fix or part out?

Hi guru's of the dirt toys. I have a question if I should repair or part out a 440 crawler. It has water in through the rusted out exhaust, so the motor is rusted. It has a gearmatic winch, 5 speed with reverser, front manual pivot blade, canopy. The tracks are shot, blade cylinders rust pitted, One...
