40C - Looking for left steering clutch housing

Hello, I am looking for a good left side steering clutch housing for my 40 crawler. The casting number I need is M1797T. The same casting number gets used on both the right and left sides, but the large bung hole, which should face towards the front of the crawler, is what makes them a right and lef...

MC Idler Brackets

I recently purchased an 1950 MC and I noticed the front idler brackets have a hole in the side. I personally had never seen idlers like that before. When I looked in the parts book I noticed that those were correct up to SN 14022. Was wondering what the reason was for the change from the idlers with...

Looking for 40C hydraulic control lever

Hello, I am looking for a hydraulic control lever and bracket for a JD40 crawler. The 40 book lists casting/part numbers: M1887T for the bracket & M1818T for the lever. I have an MC parts crawler that I thought I could get the parts from, but turns out they are not interchangeable. :( Thanks in adva...

Casting Number Question

Thanks Randy,
I see your transmission main case casting number (M2341T) is listed in the parts book. If it is not to much trouble, may I ask what your center frame (bell housing) casting number is? Also what year is your 40C?

Casting Number Question

Hello,
Is M1790T the correct transmission casting number for a '53 40C? The parts book I have (PC-862) does not list it.

Thanks!

Well it has mc sheetmetal, dash and serial no. plate. Final drive castings are mc casting numbers. It is three roller with mc pads as well.

Went back and looked at the MC again. According to the casting numbers it is a 420/430 3-point. My question is now... does that mean the entire main case/transmission housing has been changed? Is it even possilbe to interchange the main case, or is it possilbe to mount the 420/430 rockshaft on the o...

Did the MC crawlers ever have a 3 point option? There is a local MC that I looked at last week with what appears to be an original 3 point hitch. There is no noticable sign that it was an add-on, but perhaps it is. I am considering purchasing the crawler and was wondering what the 3 point set-up is ...

MC vs. 40C starter

Anyone know what the difference is between an MC starter (AM793T) and the 40C starter (AM1802T)? According to the parts book the only real difference is the drive housing "nose" of the starter. Will the MC starter work ok in a 40C? Thanks!
