Oil Filter Cover

I have a question about the oil filter cover on an MC, 40, 420, 430, etc. Most of the filter cover's I have seen look like this: http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj521/foxd6344/OilCanister_zpsfemcba6z.png However, I have run across a few that look like this on the top: http://i1266.photobucket.co...

For Sale: 1950 John Deere MC

SOLD! I am listing this 1950 MC for my father. The only pictures I have is from the first day he got it a couple years ago. He is working on getting me some new pictures, but for now this is what I have. The crawler runs and steers nicely. I know he has replaced the seat & frame with the correct one...

Sure looks like a '54 or '55 40C to me.
Not sure if there are any noticeable differences between the two years.

It is my understanding also that "CJ" stands for "Custom Job". I guess I assumed that a special ordered color would be a custom job, but maybe that is not entirely true.

Serial Number Research

I am looking for some information on a serial number research through 2 Cylinder Club on a 440 tractor or crawler. On a 40U, they came standard from the factory green, if it was special ordered as another color they have a CJ code. My 40U has a "CJ41 Description Is Not Available" because it was spec...

Power Steering

When bleeding the air out of the power steering on my 440, book says to lift front end & turn wheels back and forth until bubbles in reservoir stop. What is not specified is whether or not tractor should be running.
Any ideas?
Thanks Dave

Drove tractor all over the pasture this the weekend. Seems to be doing much better. Still has a slight hesitation in 3rd and 4th gear at high idle when first starting out, but then smooths out and runs fine. Next step may be to mount mower and see how it does under a load, althought it may be tough ...

Anyone know where I can find a splined shaft for a front mounted hydraulic pump? Mine is worn pretty badly. The pump is a HYDRECO & the part number of the shaft is U10410, says no longer available from Deere. Not sure what else this shaft may have been used on.
Thanks - Dave

Today's Update: First I discovered that when I set my stop screw in the proper location for high idle of 612 RPM's @ PTO and it drops back to 580 RPM's, that if I back the stop screw out farther, it will overshoot my intended stop point, but then drop back down to 612 RPM's and hold. I don't remembe...

Did not get a chance to test drive tractor, so I spent some time this evening going over the linkage. With both the governor to carb and throttle shaft to governor linkage adjusted according to the SM, I am right around 190 RPM PTO speed on low idle. I think some wear on the rod is keeping me from g...
