Winterizing
It's about that time of year... I have to ask, what do you guys do to winterize your tractors. Do you drain and leave the cooling system empty, or use anti-freeze? What type of anti-freeze do you recommend if you use anti-freeze? How about other items like the battery? Do you remove it and store it ...

Howdy Doc! Thanks for the info. Do you know if the pin size on your aftermarket pins are the same size as the factory JD pins? I'm going to give Lavoy the first shot on this. I like the idea of supporting the person who supports us. Lavoy!!!! Do ya have any info and a pin fer sale? Thanks in advance...

420C track pins
I decided it would be best if I gave my tractor a once over before doing any serious work with it. I found the master pin with no problems; It was sticking out about an inch, and wasn't touching the far side link. I noticed it was too short to fully engage both sides at the same time, so I ordered a ...

Flames!
I'm not too familiar with the two cylinder John Deere engines. The other night, I started my 420C to get to the master link on the track. I noticed flames coming out of the muffler's exhaust. This got me to worrying about burning the valves. Is the timing off, or could the cause be valve adjustment ...

Rear harness is only for the rear light, complete harness will include the rear harness, the front harness, headlight leads, dash light lead, all the gauge leads, and a guide to installing. Lavoy I'll be ordering the wiring harness next month. I have to go back over to the original owner today. He ...

They are color coded. I have new complete wiring harnesses available. Lvaoy Hmmmm..... North Dakota.... That's only a day or so drive from here. Shall I do the mail order thing, or shall I drive over to do some window shopping and brain picking? :D I went to your parts page. That gave me a question...

what do you want to say that the light switch acts as a generator cutout? Between the rain, I got to go through parts of the wiring harness. The houselight switch was wired between the coil and the distributor. The little girl starts! :D Next question I have to ask is if the wires are color coded o...

what do you want to say that the light switch acts as a generator cutout? I'll find out shortly! I found a wiring schematic on-line. I should be able to get to the tractor either today or tomorrow, depending on the weather and what my daughters throw at me. I feel happier than a dog finding a gut p...

Wow, that is one of the extremely rare "light switch" crawlers. If that is a 4 roller crawler, I have a set of rails and pads on hand. Lavoy Yeah, it's one of those "household use" crawlers! On one hand, I have to give the guy credit for "getting the job done", but he should have put th...

I figure there should be a way to rebuild the bushings/tracks. If I can reline a rifle barrel, I should be able to bore out and sleeve the bushings. Hi- I'm sure you saw Lavoy's post about replacing pins/bushings. One thing you should be aware of is that replacing pins and bushings should be done w...

420C electrical question
I got ready to install a battery in my newly purchase 420C, and had a thought. Even though the red cable went to the starter, I couldn't help but question if this crawler wasn't a positive ground. If you look at this picture, you'll why I had to question. Let's just say this may be the level of know...

Probably the all time, overall worst way to gauge undercarriage wear is by listening to anything the seller says, or at the least, divide whatever percentage they give by two until you verify it for yourself. Measuring pitch it a good one, the post referenced above will tell you what it is. Don't b...
