Stuck dowels on 831 loader / 1010 Crawler

I am trying to remove the 831 loader from my 1010C, to make the steering clutch job a bit easier. I am down to the dowel on the rear left side (not the very rear, but on the side) The one on the right hand side came out without much trouble. Does anyone have any tricks to removing these? I am follow...

JD Serial Number letter designations

I have just stumbled upon some info regarding 350 & 450 dozers that were built in Canada at he Welland works from 1965-69. There is a picture of one posted on the 350 info page. These models were made a more than one John Deere factory. A "T" designation at the end of the serial number would designa...

Lavoy, I'm not getting your description well enough. If I slide the spring back, do I pry the end off the ball joint, or the cap off the adjuster? The one side looks like it is missing the cap off the adjuster, but there is what seems to be a snap ring that keeps the spring on. Once I get it freed u...

Thanks again for the info. I think I will leave the button-type fittings on there as they do seem very heavy-duty in comparison to regular ones. I will take it easy on the pressure. I am still trying to secure a service manual for the machine. Thanks again!

Thanks for this info. I unscrewed the one on my track tensioner and it looked a bit bigger than the regular thread on the end of a grease gun, but I will give it a try. As far as digging, this dozer must not have seen much action in the mud (that might explain the lack of wear to the UC) because I c...

I just opened up my 1010 steering clutch adjustment area. From the looks of the 2010 photos, the 2010 and 1010 have very different steering adjustments. Let you know how I make out after following the Op manual instructions for making the adjustment.

If you take a look through some of the "Show & Tell" discussion threads, you will see a gentleman that has removed the engine from his crawler while the loader was still attached. I can say I have never had any experience (yet) removing an engine from a crawler (only from 2-cylinder tractors), but y...

Where did you find the manual online? I went to the Deere.com website but can only order hard copy manuals. Thanks!

1010 Special Grease Gun/Zerks

Still playing with my new 1010 on this beautiful Canadian holiday long-weekend. Have sat sown and read through the Operator's manual and the Parts Catalog that I have for the 1010. As I was inspecting the rollers and idler I see that they have special (or new to my knowledge) grease zerks, as does t...

JD 1010 ICD Glow Plugs

Just bought a 1010 ICD with 810 loader. Gentleman I bought it from has always started it with a shot of starting fluid (which kind of scares me, as I know what harm can be done by such chronic practises). I have not had much time to dive in and investigate yet, but how big a job is it to install glo...

Re: 1010 steering adjustment

If you can obtain an Operator's Manual for your machine, it goes through the very specific steps to make this adjustment. As stated in the manual "The clutches and brakes, as well as their linkage, are so related in their operation that the adjustments must be made in a certain order. For that reaso...
