Mine weighs 6060 pounds, but that's with a 62 blade and a heck of a big limb riser cage on it. I hauled it one time on a double axle trailer rated at 7000# with no brakes and found out that wasn't very smart. Now have a trailer rated for 11000# but still pulled with a 1/2 ton pickup. I don't haul it...

I'll try to remember to shoot some pictures of the four spool set up next time I'm up at my cabin--which will be later this week or next. Don't know how to post pictures here but can email them to someone and they can post if they want to. I'm assuming it is a four spool since there's four control v...

My 420C has the 4 spool setup mounted above the hydralic tank. Since it is old MS. Forestry Service dozer it may have been mounted there to keep brush and tree limbs from tearing it off while they were plowing fire lanes around wildfires.

Idler wheel bushings--Part# M2266T
Master pin snap ring--Part# M2679T

Didn't check to see if JD still lists them. Since you are rebuilding finals, I would replace both sides to make them alike or evenly worn.

Had mine on the 62 blade rebuilt by local hydralic shop here in Mississippi for $75. Don't know where he gets his parts, but I was happy with the price.

Should be a metal tag riveted to the left side of center tube between transmission and engine. Will be about half way if 1st series--Serial #< 100001-- and on left side of bell housing if > 100001. If it is missing, you may never know.

1956 420

Grousers show no signs of being welded up. Can't swear that they are the ones that came from factory, since the dozer had several previous owners before I bought it. Engine had <than 100 hrs. since being rebuilt and pins and bushings had <10 hrs. since being replaced. Did have to put in new(used) dr...

1956 420 Before and After Pics

Old Miss. Forestry Commission dozer. Was JD Green under all the yellow paint, so I decided to go back to all green. Early '56, so no yellow on hood.

Replied to the above post before I saw this one. Check with Lavoy. Also one out of a late model 420 wheel tractor is the same thing if you can find a used one. JD probably still sells them also, but the JD price for the early 420C was $465.

Don't know what crawler you have, but the one in my first series 420C was stripped when I bought it. I just bought used one on ebay--in fact I have bought three used ones. I'm pretty sure Lavoy will repair yours with new ends welded on if you have a 420C. Don't know about other models. You can check...

If you are talking about decals, try Jorde's Decals--507-288-5483 or emaildecals@jordedecals.com. I got complete set for my 420C from them and they are good.

Pretty sure that will make it a '56 serial # under 100000. Also forgot to mention that on these the starter is mounted with a cone pointed Allen screw with a lock nut on it. My 420 is old Miss. Forestery Comm. dozer and serial tag missing. I determined it is '56 by locating the location the serial p...

You can also look for where the serial tag was located. If it was on the left side of the center tube about a foot behind the bell housing it is early '56. If it was in the bell housing left side it probably was a '57 or at least above serial # 100000.
