I think it's a constant mesh. Never mind that it has those gears, high, low and reverse. There are no such gauges. Not a loader, 6 way blade with backhoe.

... and yes, the hose and grease fitting was right where it should have been. Who knew?

I have made contact with Lavoy. We have concluded that I must have the constant mesh simply because a 12" came out of it. If I don't even know what kind of transmission I have, you expect me to know to grease the throw-out bearing? Thanks to all for a happy conclusion. This machine has been great fu...

Thanks, I tried to call two places that are in the business and each went to message with no return call. I did speak to the local Deere dealer and learned exactly what you said Oljoe, that there were two types, 11 inch and unspecified. Mine was twelve inch so I was left with a bit of uncertainty. M...

Straight 450 main clutch, 11 or 12?

Help I have the main clutch removed on my JD 450 (no letter) crawler. The release bearing managed to grind and melt the three fingers on the pressure plate. I was thinking that it was because I did not grease the bearing, but now not so sure. Several sources tell me that I should have a 11" clutch p...

Sounds like what I need. Still cannot look for another week due to travels. Are there normally bolts in those holes for some double purpose (like holding a bracket or something) or are they just empty holes? I guess that will be obvious when I look. Thanks.

removing engine

Where do I attach to hoist the engine for removal? I looked at the clutch with a boroscope and it seems that the throwout bearing is going completely past the pressure plate. As if the fingers on the plate were worn completely away! It is coming apart. Am currently on a trip away from my repair manu...

Well, I am not getting feedback for 100% of the clutch pedal movement. The clutch does not release, it directly drives the transmission, always. I am currently using the turning clutches, pulling back on the sticks when I start it and if I have to change directions I have to shut it off and restart ...

Main Clutch linkage?

I think I should have posted this on the late model crawler section, sorry. Something let loose on my JD450 main clutch. Is there anything I can fix in the linkage without removing the engine? The pedal goes to the floor with just a light spring to pull it back; it doesn’t feel like the pressure pla...

adjuster cylinder

Did you weld up the old one successfully? I have a straight 450 and it looks like I just did the same thing. I blew out the adjuster. I was wondering if there was a blow-out plug on the inboard side where I couldn't see because that is where it blew and sent grease everywhere. I did not pick up a st...

Draining and reusing hydraulic fluid

My recent hydraulic problems required me to drain and refill my hydraulic fluid several times. Conditions leading up to my problems (referenced in another post) left me with several uncontaminated 5 gallon pails to drain my fluid into, so I could re-use it. I never removed any plug in the bottom of ...

I found the problem. Thanks to all for your help and insights. In the process of trouble shooting I was setting up to blow out the input and output lines at the pump. There is a short hose on the inlet side of the pump that bends 90 degrees and transports the fluid from a pipe approximately 1.5 inch...

Thanks. It will be a week or so before I can tear into it due to life getting in the way. I agree with you, the location of the restriction is pretty narrowed down at this point. That assumes correct diagnosis of a restriction rather than a blown pump. I don't think I blew the pump due to the strain...

I lied. There were two filters, now I have changed both. The second one is a last chance screen as the fluid leaves the reservoir, and it was clogged, enough in my view to open any by-pass that might exist and allow junk to flow to the pump and beyond. I changed that filter and still no help. Is the...
