Are both the frame rails broken where they attach to the Steering clutch housing? Sure looks like it. I'm thinking you would be better off scrapping it out and cutting your loses. Not trying to be negative but who knows what else you will find wrong once you get into replacing the trans case.

My vote is you did ok to buy for less than scrap metal value. I think i would torch off the entire undercarriage and find a better used one/newer one. Even if you have to put 5 grand in it would still be worth it. I want to know how the track frame got bent? Did someone go cliff diving or did they g...

Last night on the way home I stopped and got a 180 degree thermostat and put it in . When I pulled the radiator cap it still had pressure in it, had sat since Saturday afternoon. Looked like it had the original one in it. It looks kinda like a butterfly type valve? It was closed so I was skeptical t...

Thanks for the glimmer of hope guys! This time of year I don't use it much maybe a half hour or so at a time to plow snow with and should have mentioned earlier that it hardly ever gets over 100 degree water temp. Maybe all I need is to figure out a way to get the temp up to get rid of the hopefully...

When I changed the oil multiple times now I had let it set for a day or so to see if water pooled on the bottom but it seems that thier is none that I can see. All thier ever is a white oily buildup at the top of the dipstick tube after maybe 3-4 hours of running. The oil pressure stays steady. The ...

Thanks Leonard. I have the service manual for the machine and have already been into the engine to replace the head gasket. Now my question is to replace the sleeve seals in the engine i assume i have to pull it out of the machine to remove the crank, rods and pistons to get the sleeves out? Or can I...

My additional question is would diesel fuel contamination result in build up of whitish oil fluid building up on the dipstick or is this strictly a symptom of water in the oil???

450 crankcase oil contamination

I'm looking for some help on a ongoing problem I am having with my 450. Last fall I noticed some whitish oily build up on my dipstick. I assumed this was antifreeze and proceeded to change the head gasket. The old one looked fine as well as everything else inside. Changed the oil and filter a couple...

Also on my machine the "dogbone" brackets that the bolts go thru between the frame rails and clutch housings were junk also. One side was broke in half and the other had the mounting bolts that come up from underneath snapped of inside of it. These also are no cheap date from deere(about $300 each)....

I can sent you a drawing of the replacement bolts I had made if you would like some dimensions to look at?? Left hand drill bits would be a great idea, I used what I had. I highly recommend using cobalt drills as they will take the abuse of drilling thru tough steel on the end of flimsy drill extens...

They are a shoulder type bolt that has a 3/4"-10 thread on the end. Length from the end to the head is 3.875". Only available from deere for a rediculous price. I had mine made at a machine shop for $30 apiece. They thread into the clutch housing and are theaded thru. On my 450 3 out of the 4 were b...
