Re: John Deere 450
Garymcd, The first thing I would do is check the adjustment on the steering clutches and readjust as necessary per the specs. When I adjusted mine it was fine for awhile then, with use, I think they "broke in" and needed to be readjusted. I ran it some more then tweked them, a little, to my liking.

Re: Transmission Filter Case
It cannot be removed without removing the top cover, HLR clutch packs and transmission gears.

Re: Jd 450c hydraulic oil in bellhousing
Here is what I went through to find a leak on a straight 450. I got the leak fixed but am still working on the HLR shifting problem. http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=7602 You will need to pull the clutch housing to remove the pump housing and replace the front seal. Be sure to ...

Re: reverser oil flow question
Well I haven’t pushed this thing off in the ditch yet. I did however decide to fill the transmission case to the top with oil to eliminate any internal air being sucked into the pump. I started the engine and the same symptoms showed up. Even though I’ve replaced the input seal once I think Jds may ...

Re: reverser oil flow question
Well there's definitely air entering somwhere, where is the pump mounted on your machine? Jds, The pump mounts on the front transmission cover and oil is supplied from a cast passage in the cover. There is a 1” hole in the lower front part of the case that supplies oil to the front cover. Inside of...

Re: reverser oil flow question
From the sounds, does the valve buzzing noise start approximately the same time the frothy oil shows up? The buzzing starts as soon as the pump pressure reaches 130-150 psi and is just a few seconds after starting. The buzzing seems to correspond more with the bubbles than the foaming. I got a new ...

Re: reverser oil flow question
Attached is a video with a clear hose attached to the cooler line
Lots of air bubbles then it gets foamy at the end.
One of the rubber fuel injector return lines broke so I had to shut it down...more testing tonight.

Re: reverser oil flow question
Great idea Paul I'll give that a try when I have a chance to get back to it. I've got the hay thing going on again right now and it's taking all my time.
Jds, Thanks for the reply. I've racking my little pea brain trying to figure how to check for air in the system and Paul came up with a way.

Re: reverser oil flow question
I tried bypassing the cooler and transmission filter and got the same result. The buzzing started when the pressure rose to about 150 and started to fluctuate. When I disengaged the engine clutch the pressure dropped to 0 and the buzzing stopped. When I engaged the clutch It took about a minute for ...

Re: reverser oil flow question
not to question your checking, but you mention the hose interior deteriorated, is possible piece broke off and lodged in critical location??? That is a very distinct possibility. It would have to be in the cooler or the filter. I’ve had everything else off and cleaned. If I bypass those and it stil...

Re: Low track power
After watching the video a couple of times, I really couldn’t see a problem with the HLR pressure. The only time I saw the pressure drop to 0 was when you disengaged the engine clutch by pressing the pedal all the way down. The pressure rises to 200 psi when you first start to depress the clutch, th...

Re: reverser oil flow question
Have you checked the oil level when it's making the buzzing noise? Is it different than when its not making the noise? I have not checked the oil level with the engine running but I did check it when I shut down. It was full. I’ll check it running. The other thing I want to try is bypassing the coo...

Re: reverser oil flow question
I had very high hopes only to have them dashed against the cold yellow steel that is the 450. When I got ready to put the rubber sections of cooler lines back on I blew compressed air through all the hoses and looked through them for resections. One of the lines had a piece of rubber where the...

Re: reverser oil flow question
I got the clutch assembly back in and covered everything up. I haven’t been able to get back on it because hay season got here, and I just finished with that last week. Also, my wife and I are having a 40-year anniversary, party and vowel renewal, coming up the first part of June. We’re having the g...
