Moving a trackless crawler

What is the best way to move two trackless crawlers around my shop? I moved one inside by lifting the rear with the loader and rolling it along the front idlers on the concrete. I plan on sliding the other in next to it this weekend. What are the chances I wil break the flange off the front idler? I...

I installed a spare manifold/muffler and it quieted the crawler down considerably. I havent pushed anything with it yet but the motor feels strong. Now I'm torn as to which crawler I'll rebuild?? Maybe I need to buy a third for the parts machine. :D

Fire from the exhaust.

I'm relatively new to the 2 cyl's and I am still struggling to understand what a good running popper sounds like. This crawler was parked outside under old fir trees for at least 12 yrs. I got it running and driving around the yard. Everything seems to work well but the fire from the exhaust concern...

The serial # shows 420c but who would know what happened over its lifetime. Its a 5spd with the short shifter and reverser. There are a few torch scars on the sprockets.

What are the tell tale signs of a 40 rear? I dont think the 40 chain will work on my 420 sprockets?

Rescued from the scrapper. Crawler #2

After searching for a few weeks I was directed to a scrap dealer who had "old dozers". I stopped by to see the fellow and sure enough, there were 3x 420 crawlers. One assembled, which is what I took home. Another about 80% complete and I plan on picking up a few parts off of it this week. The third ...

Is there a trick to get the propeller shaft out of the housing. I don't have the AM2047T tool listed in the manual.

I also found that there wasn't a detent ball and spring in the housing for the shifter.

420 reverser, worth repairing?

My reverser in its past life had filled with water and froze. It had cracked along the bottom of the housing and I finished off the crack when I was removing the center section of the crawler. First I was annoyed at myself for stressing the housing and cracking it, but once I found the old cracks I ...

What can I expect from a 420C?

How much work can these little guys do? I've been assesing the crawler and trying to see how far I will go with the repairs. I bought this machine with the intentions of basically landscaping around the farm. Things like grading the slope off the ditch so I can more easily mow the grass, level out l...

A lot of good advice for me here so far. I will assume that I will not have anything much heavier in the heated portion of the shop than my 450b, so a thick concrete slab is possible. I like the in floor heat in front of the work benches as well. I have a boiler in my cabin that might get replaced ...

420C Blade Mount?

I'm getting ready to pull the 420 into the shop for an inspection\overhaul and I plan on converting my existing blade to 6 way hyd. Right now it has the L-601 blade on it of which I havent seen before. Does anyone have any info on it? What are the benefits to having the upper lift arms? http://img.p...

Opening up the 420 - What to look for?

Hi Guys, I'm going to be pulling the motor on my crawler to rectify the the issue of the main engine clutch not disengaging. While I'm into it that far what else should I look into? It's a 5 speed with reverser and I'm unsure if the reverser actually works or not. I have a deere service manual and t...

420 Bottom Rollers and Track Pads

I'm looking for at least three bottom rollers for my crawler. I can pick up anywhere from QC to Halifax. If your south of the border I will need shipped to Maine.

Also looking for a good set of track pads with grousers.
