Lavoy, just wondering.....have you ever had any issues with valve seats burning? I remember that was a concern in automotive engines back when they took the lead out of the gas.

If I'm not badly mistaken the only real benefit to the paper element filters was.the volumetric efficiency.........they flowed better. A real concern for modern automotive engines turning as much as 6000 rpm, but not a big deal for.an engine only turning 1800 - 2000 rpm.

For sure if you want your reverser to work, now is the time to delve off into it while you have it broke.apart. Also if nothing else I'd check the front seal and bearing on the transmission. Both easy to get to with engine out as all you got to do is split it.again at the torque tube and tranny.

Looks like you are as deep into yours as I am mine. I can't say off hand about the endplay spec, but if you don't have an answer by morning I'll get that spec for you from the manual when I get to the shop in the morning and post it for you.

Just an update....Haven't got to work on this thing much lately as I been busy working on everyone elses stuff in the shop right now, but I did manage to make a die to make those radius thrust washers that go behind the spider gears in the reverser. Deere has them for $8.00 each, but I just really c...

From what I am hearing the engine is laboring with the clutch engaged, reverser in reverse and transmission in neutral. If this is correct, and if it doesn't labor the engine with the clutch engaged, reverser in forward, and transmission in neutral, then you definately have a problem with the revers...

I have been going through one of these reversers on my crawler recently, and the only thing I can think of that would cause that would be either the spider gear bearings going bad or the input or output gear bearing in the reverser going bad. The only time those bearings actually run is when the rev...

If it was running ok before and nothing else changed other than points, best bet is you got a bad condenser. The condenser absorbs the " coil ring" that causes the points to arc. Bad condenser.......arcing points.

Two quarts in 30 hours does seem a bit excessive. Any chance your mechanic used Chrome rings? From everything I have ever heard those can be a real bear to get to seat in. I know caterpillar used to actually recommend ....( not that I would do this )....using what they called a break-in powder. It w...

The only time you have to worry about the polarity of the battery is if you have an alternator. The diodes in an alternator determine which polarity you need to connect to ground. Over 99.9% of automotive alternators are designed for negative ground. Starters don't care which polarity, they will sp...

Making a little more headway on this thing. I got the new seals installed in the reverser unit today, and got the new input shaft bearing in place also.
