Wow, you guys really know your... uh... crawlers! ;) I can tell you the red stuff you see on the hose going to the air cleaner is duct tape... maybe because it rubs on the sides of the hole? I have been researching on a bigger machine (not Deere) that is available much farther away. Maybe I will wat...

At first glance I notice the seals on all loader rams leak .The loader bucket linkage leaves a lot to be desired as well as the loader control is worn bad and the steering clutch-breaks need attention this machine is in poor condition don't pay much for it but all is rebuild able so if it goes chea...

I stopped by the auction yard today to see if it was near the fence and the gate was open, couple farmers in there looking at stuff. The serial number on the dash tag is SNE73500019161(or was it I?) So looks like a 1966 straight 350? Is that the right serial number location? The meter read 4752 hour...

How does this 350 loader at local auction look?

Hey guys, back again with another machine to look at. The 450 from before went higher than I was willing to pay for a machine so far away. Anyway this 350 has popped up at a local auction, lots of pics and even a video: http://westernauctionco.auctionflex.com/showlot.ap?co=48213&weid=25351&weiid=931...

Well no-go on getting the owner to provide track measurements... says he is too old, gray and worn out to bother ;) I am off in a few hours to go camping for the weekend so will see on Monday (or Sunday if the rain keeps up all weekend) what the price is and if I am still interested enough to make t...

Certainly at the price it is at now, you can't get too hurt because it isn't much higher than scrap price. It would bring $1500-$1600 in scrap here where I live. That's a huge difference from $5500 or am I missing something here? He also put it up on ebay with no reserve currently at $2550 There is...

Re: Opinions on this straight 450?

From what I can see from "here", the tracks look pretty good. When the loose track gets pumped up tight there will be plenty of adjustment left. But - who knows what else is worn? I think $5500 is high for a 450 loader unless in verified excellent condition. A dozer with a 6 way blade - maybe - but...

Thanks guys for the continued feedback. I did check local salvage yards after Tigerhaze jogged my memory on that. Turns out tractorparts.com is local and he has a couple of 450's in the yard. One has a ROPs, hard to tell from the pic if it is factory or not. The guy kind of complicated things by pos...

Re: 450

As for the clutches, it is really obvious when a clutch is stuck so I doubt he would attempt to sell it on ebay if it was not working. You cannot pay in any other method than paypal anymore so there is protection from fraud. From the photo, the cross member looks tight also. Just from the photos, I...

Re: Opinions on this straight 450?

Hi guys! I have been toying with the idea of buying a loader/crawler and there is a straight 450 for sale about 4 hours away. Great machines but - a few things to note. So, a word of warning with 450 crawlers. A machine can start fine, and run fine until it gets good and hot - and then can lose eng...

Re: 450 loader

The statement about the clutches is accurate. The brake bands need adjustment quite often. I have had 3 straight 450's and that is true. The tracks look good. Someone cut down 16 inch grouser pads to give clearance between the housing. I don't think that is a problem. The rear sprokets are in reall...

Hi: Could you rent a machine to do what you want to get done? Once I got out of logging, I found this to be a good solution to getting large amounts of earth moved - I could rent a job-matched machine, get the job done and then do other things; all for a relatively known cost and with a usually sou...

Opinions on this straight 450?

Hi guys! I have been toying with the idea of buying a loader/crawler and there is a straight 450 for sale about 4 hours away. The intended use would be to move tons of dirt at the local rifle range to help complete some projects like making pistol pits, making safety berms, drag a disc for a fire br...
