Re: 40c idler wheels
I just checked and you are correct, Lavoy, there it was. It took grease, so all is well.

40c idler wheels
I have a grease fitting on the right idler wheel, but not on the left side. I tapped the left side and put in a grease fitting but it won't take any grease. What's up with that?

John Deere 40c hydraulics
JD40c on Mon May 20, 2013 11:23 pm showed a picture of the hydraulic lines going from the hydraulic control valve to the hydraulic cylinder. That is what I want to do. Where did you get the elbows to go into the control valve? They appear to be regular pipe elbows. Were you able to push the springs ...

Re: 40c distributor
I did a 12 volt conversion to my 1949 Farmall H in the mid 1970s, and then put in the electronic ignition last year and now with just a slight bump on the starter button it is running. Did a electronic ignition to my 1944 Farmall H with a 6 volt system pos ground and it starts about like when it had...

40c distributor
Is the distributor on a JD 40 crawler the same as a JD 40 tractor? I would like to switch from points to electronic ignition on my 40c. Has anyone else done this? Any problems? Anything else that I need to change?

Re: 40c oil seal
Thank you, Lavoy, both of the old oil seals were in backwards.

Re: 40c oil seal
Placing the oil seal into the final drive from the back of the final drive, which way should the oil seal face? With the metal frame to the inside or outside? Also, using just one oil seal should it go all of the way in against the race, or flush with the outside of the final drive? When I removed t...

Re: 40c oil seal
Finally got around to knocking out the race (cup), and the oil seals (there were 2 used). Is this correct, as far as using 2 oil seals?

Re: 40c oil seal
Lavoy, tell me how to pay, and I'll send the money right away. Also, this looks tricky to remove that race. The oil seal might be a lot easier. Any helpful hints.

Re: 40c oil seal
If you look at a 40c final drive, it is in the back of the final drive housing on the top where the final drive shaft goes through it. Also there is a cup (race) part # JD 8220 T that is in front of the oil seal. I have the cup, but without a new oil seal I'm afraid of ruining the old oil seal tryin...

Re: 40c steering problem
Before I go any farther, let me say this: on my 40c, the left final drive is off of a 420, and the right final drive is a 40c, however, the right final drive had broken some time before I bought it and was welded up. If that matters. Now, I just provided more slack by loosening the brake adjusting s...

Re: 40c steering problem
Are you talking about the brake adjusting set screw? I thought about that, and will loosen it up today, if I can get out there before the rain starts. Thank you for your response, gregjo.
