1010 crawler loader oil question - reverser, transmission

I was going through my oil levels and the reverser is down a bit. What should I use? The guy I bought the machine from said I should use hydraulic fluid for all. Is this true?

Hi, I appreciate all of your comments and suggestions. I do not understand what you mean by the "breather cup" - I'll try to figure that out - do you mean the air cleaner bowl? As far as the dipstick is concerned, I can only assume it is original but don't know for sure. The best way to describe it ...

I was working left side down grade. It's hard to say about oil use... It has all new fluids and I topped the oil off after about 25 hours of work, less than a quart.

Smoke

Hi, I've only had my 1010c for a month or so and I've not used it that much but I have noticed that it sometimes smokes, blue, oil smoke... It isn't consistent and doesn't seem to be lacking in power as if it had a loss in compression. The only thing I have noticed is if I'm working on a hill (acros...

Hi, my 1010 has a loader. I think it is best to use the hardened bolts as this was the original design for the machine. Thanks for helping me with this.

Hi all, I appreciate all of the advice. My 1010 has street pads but does have the auxiliary holes. I will have to cut out the old bolts in there - they are warn down and rounded. They guy I bought it from said they used to be snow spikes... I appreciate the picture - seems like it would be worth the...

Snow and ice

Hi, I am hoping to use my 1010 this winter to move snow around and clear areas for propane deliveries and parking at our home in Vermont. The driveway is very long and being Vermont, steep in places. I am concerned with the pads that are currently on the track being flat (noticed sliding on ledge in...

1966 JD 1010 crawler / loader - lights - electrical

Hi, In getting ready for winter, I need to get some lights working on my crawler. The old lights are there but the wires are gone, I ran a new line to the lights in the grill from the switch - the generator light stayed on (makes me think there was some kind of polrization) and no lights. Or maybe t...

I installed the new track adjuster last night. It went together very easily, worked the machine all day today without any other issues.

Thanks for all of the reply's. I bought Lucas heavy duty grease NLGI #2. I'm not sure about much in grease but it seems heavy and thicker more like the grease that was in the old part. Now I need to put it back together again. I didn't remove the track so I need to take the replacement apart without...

Track Adjusters

Hi, I just picked up a nice 1966 JD 1010 crawler/loader. Within the first 8 hours of "getting the feel" of the machine I was pushing some brush around in a area recently cleared and picked up a branch in the track. The branch was 4" in diameter and got between the track and the cog - stretching the ...
