I have a John Deere 40c when I started up in neutral engine, will run for about five minutes and then start going into labor and then quit. This is my first crawler .I have a repair manual and it says nothing about adjusting the presser plate .I wish now I would have got on the internet more. My steering clutch is froze up. I am in the process of rebuilding it and I noticed a broken spring hooked to the bell crank. There was not one on the other side. My biggest concern is sinking a whole Lotta money in this thing and never getting it back out of it for both steering clutches are froze the fella I bought off of did not tell me straight out all the stuff wrong with it where the bell housing bolts to the transmission that two of the four bolts are ...

I have a old 40c and the steering clutch is lock up i have pulled them off and a part the clutch disks dont look bad one is cracked .I really dont want to buy new steering clutchs for the cheapest I have seen is 500$.So can I just cean them up with a wire wheel and put them back in and what can I do...

Jd 40 won't turn

the right side will not turn .I have looked at it the band clutch seems to be grabing the drum .But i notced that the band clutch is wet .so i think that might be my problem .If it is how do i get it dry with out taking it out?
IT looks like it got oil on it some how.
