Re: John Deere 550 (straight) questions

That's what worries me most is transmission problems. I went thru the transmission problems before on a 450c, I can relate to the giving it away. most nerve racking ordeal ive ever seen.

John Deere 550 (straight) questions

Hey Guys Ive been looking at a 1977 JD550 (straight) that just came up for sale in my neck of the woods. I`m a little hesitant with the dozer, after reading about some of the transmission problems on some of the different post on here. What should I look for/ check on these dozers before making an o...

350b

Hey Guys,
What was the last year that the 350b was built? I saw a post on here some time ago, that had the serial number that coresponded with the year model. Anyone else seen this or was I dreaming? Thanks

350b 3 point hitch

I was wondering if you guys with a 3 point hitch set up, could send me some detailed pics of the 3 point hitch. Reason I`m asking, I found a 3 point hitch off another dozer I was thinking of buying, and wanted to be sure everything is there. My dozer has a winch on it now, that I`m thinking of possi...

I pulled the final off the dozer yesterday, What a mess. None of the clutches were installed right. The pressure plate had been adjusted, it was set to where there would have been no way it would have released. The adjustment screws under the fingers were turn all the way in as far as they would go,...

yeah, should have known better than to let him do the work, but I guess you live and learn. Just got off the phone with him and what he`s telling me, he replaced the clutch discs and spacers but also added one extra spacer. I`m guessing that the extra spacer is what`s causing my problem. Is there an...

JD 350b steering clutch problem

Hey guys, finally got straight blade swapped out for the 6 way blade , and got control handle repined. Just before changing the parts out, the steering clutches were replaced. Mechanic got everything back together and the clutches wont release on that side. Pressure plate was adjusted before it was ...

I talked an older mechanic today about the problem of the control handle being worn alot. He said to take the control assembly apart, knock out the roll pins, drill them out a size bigger and put in a size bigger roll pins. Then change out the two bushings around top and bottom of t handle. Any of y...

Good idea on the pump, Hadnt thought about it. As for the mounts i totally agree with you there as well. The 450c was getting worn quite a bit at the mounts replaced a few stripped bolts and a pin, removed a lot of the slop. Thanks again on the pump idea.

Got one if the brackets off tonite, it hust needed a little persuasion. Like the persuasion from a 16lb sledge hammer to loosen thing up. Had two large dowel pins that stuck in the side of the track frame. My guess is that this had never been removed since dozer was built, and the dowels were stuck ...

The price for the kit was $1130.00 plus tax. Thats 1/3 of what i paid for the whole dozer. Big boy toys aren't cheap i guess....lol

6 way blade control

Went by the john deere parts department today, and they do make a kit that includes the whole control assembly with exception of the t- handle. I must say john deere is rather proud of those parts $$$$$$$$$$

350 blade conversion

Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone has changed out a straight blade for a hydraulic 6 wayset on a jd 350. Have a complete donor machine with the 6 way blade. Problem i'm having is removing the outside blade brackets that mount to the track frame on the running dozer. After removing the bolts, what a...
