Not a bad idea Whiteclipse. It does seem like it is worth more in parts than whole, but shipping would get expensive with all that heavy stuff. I will think about parting it out I guess.

Anyone interested make an offer before I call the dreaded scrappers. I would hate to do that, but I guess there is no market for these old crawlers. Should I try ebay or craigslist? I have never sold anything on ebay. Has anyone else had any luck selling an old crawler with ebay? Thanks- Scott

440ICD with 3 point hitch /831 loader for sale in California

I have decided to sell my 440 as I really need a dozer. It needs some work as it sat for a long time. I have cleaned the fuel tank and changed the oil and filters and replaced some hydraulic hoses, but the other fluids should be changed. The left steering clutch is weak so I figure it should be repl...

Finally something I can help with instead of just asking questions! I did the ones on mine and it was definitely a pain. First take the pins out that hold the cylinder in and slide the cylinder out so you can remove the hoses from the cylinder. Make some sort of a mark so you know which line goes wh...

If I can't find one I will probably have my neighbor who is a fabricator fix it for me. In the meantime I'll keep my eyes open for a replacement.

2-53 was used in more applications than you can even begin to think of, I would hate to guess how many thousands and thousands of them were built. The main question would be if the Deere pan is the same as the others. Lavoy That is the million dollar question! Any Ideas on what else used the 2-53 s...

Thanks shinnery. what other applications was the 2-53 used on other than John Deere? And would they have the same oil pan? I'm sure my pan could be repaired, but I would rather get another one if it was readily available.

440 icd oil pan

I took the belly pan off my 440 icd to clean out the years of dirt and rat nests, and after I was finished pressure washing everything it appears that my oil pan is rusted through and leaking! I guess the crud was keeping it plugged for all these years. My question is- what oil pan will fit? Will an...

Thanks guys. It will take awhile, but I can't wait to get this old iron back in service! Next will be the engine oil and fuel filter. Are these JD specific parts, or is there a crossover for Napa? Thanks- Scott

831 loader- What to use for hydraulic fluid?

I finally got my free 440icd hauled home and am in the process of sorting things out after it sat for 12 to 30 years (depending on the day, the old timer who gave it to me had different recollections). The really heavy right side lift cylinder has a bad hose so I am replacing both hoses and changing...

Ended up getting one at O'reillys, got it in and all is well! I'll put it back in the tractor tomorrow or Monday and hope I can get the hauler back soon if it starts. I'm sure happy it was an easy to obtain part as I was assuming it would be tough to find because of the age. I won't go into detail o...

jtrichard- Thanks a lot for all the info! I am going to town today and will see if I can find one of those part #'s at Napa. Alas, as I am a Ford guy I don't have any Chevy starters laying around!

Need a starter solenoid for a 440icd

Finally found someone to haul my free 440icd home, but I couldn't get it to start to get it on the trailer:x I took the starter out and brought it home to look at it and found one of the lugs on the solenoid had been previously rigged and had finally failed. Does anyone know the part # for these sol...
