JD450 H-L-R transmission filters

HI guys, A simple question for those that have done this chore. The transmission appears to be working just fine. I want to clean the HLR transmission filter and check condition. The book shows the cover on the lower right hand side of the tranny casing, but doesn't say if the transmission needs to ...

Hi, An engine rebuild is not too bad or expensive - prividing you use after market parts. I used JD parts on my engine and paid about three times what I could have bought the same parts for, elsewhere. The actual job is not too hard and the engine can be out in a few hours if you have enough equipme...

Ok - I decided to go and re-read the section in the manual. This time I think I have it right    After checking the fuel pump timing marks are aligned internally, the pump is then tightened in that position. This is for the correct static timing. The engine should then be run at...

JD450 Injection Fuel Pump Static Timing ????????

Hi guys, Finally got around to taking the fuel pump off the machine and working on it. While I had the pump off I replaced the drive shaft as the old one was badly worn at the drive tang. I replaced the pump and set the timing to what I think is around 5 degrees BTDC ????? With the new parts install...

Well, I went ahead and removed the nose cone and moved the radiator to gain clear access to the drive shaft. Too much risk (radiators aren't cheap )trying to "fix it" with everything in place. The hardest part was removing the nose as it is so heavy. Once the end of the shaft was exposed a good hard...

JD450 Fuel pump drive shaft removal !!!

Hi Guys, I finally got around to doing something with the leaking fuel pump on my 450 - fuel has been leaking past the shaft seals in the pump body, where the regulating shaft sticks out. The drive shaft has about 0.040 worn off the drive tang and I bought a new shaft to install to replace it. The o...

For years I have been using link belts where access is hard. I have had no problems to date with one failing - that being said, there is always a first time   The link belts come in different configurations - easily adjusted by adding or removing links. If a link fails, just replace it...

Check inside the house for the steering clutch - it might be the brake lining worn and the metal band itself, scouring the outside of the clutch housing. There are small inspection hole on top of the housing about 8" and 5" wide, held on by five bolts IIRC. You will need a flashlight and it will giv...

JD450 CRAWLER LOADER ARM PINS

Just wondering if the loader arm pins are of a very hard material in the centre areas ? The outside case hardening would only be probably 0.0030" at most ? The arms on my bucket loader are pretty sloppy and I was wondering about drilling and tapping holes in the pin centre (say 3/4" diameter) and th...

Tom, Thanks for the reply. This is one of those "can't see the wood for the trees" type question. I have done a lot of work on this machine (rebuilt the engine, new discs in both steering clutches etc.) so I'm not completely dumb    . However, I just could not make up my mind on...

Transmission oil filter connections of JD450

Hi Guys, I am thinking that my H-L-R transmission oil filter - the one mounted in front of the radiator, is connected incorrectly   . I was working underneath my machine recently (checking frame bracket bolts etc.) and just happenend to trace the oil lines from the transmission to the ...

I don't recall seeing it, but have you tried using a link belt instead of a rubber one? The link belts and great as they can be made different sizes and adjusted as needed - remove or add links.

Just thought I would post an update about the clutch work. I had about four weeks delay in getting the parts - long story, but after market suppliers don't necessarily have the resources of the bigger guys (Deere). Anyway, I finally received everything and was able to complete the work. Both clutche...
