440icd smoking
I have been reading old posts about the 2-53 Detroit engine and have come to the conclusion that they do not fire quite correctly upon start up and emit white smoke for a period of time. Yesterday I started my crawler since the weather was so warm. It took a few shots of ether to get running, but th...

Re: Canopy and/or winch off of 440 crawler for sale
For Sale: Canopy and/or winch off of the 440 crawler I just brought home. The canopy is off of a 1010 or 350, but very professional job of adapting to fit a 440, not a single butcher job required to mount. The winch appears to be a late model Ramsey or Warn PTO drive winch like used on Army jeep or...

Re: 440ICD cooling fan bearings
Hello folks, Well I managed to get the fan bracket and fan out by pushing the radiator forward after loosening top hose and mounts. Now the problem I have is that when attempting to press the pulley off I broke the cast pulley and also the top mounting tab bracket, not to mention the bearings and s...

440ICD Cooling fan bearings
Does anyone know what the procedure is to change the fan bearings on the 440 diesel crawler. It has the 2-53 Detroit and the fan is a little loose.
Does the radiator have to be removed?
Thanks in advance

440ICD radiator
Will the radiator from a 430 gas fit on a 440diesel with out too much modification. Does it require different cooling capacity for the Detroit 2-53?
While I am here. Will the starter from a 430 work on a 440ICD?
Thanks,

440ICD loader converting to dozer
Same blade with a lot of slop in the arms which extend for angling the blade. Would this be a problem with the pins or worn out rectangular bars that slide inside another rectangular tube. Could they be shimmed to take out the slop? After thinking about the sloppiness of the blade, I came to realize...

440ICD loader converting to dozer
Hi all,
Can anyone see a problem with taking the loader off of a 440 diesel and installing a dozer blade and tracks in its place. I think the blade is a 63 manual 6 way. Tracks have dozer pads and grousers.
Also any problems with putting a hydraulic cylinder on the blade for tilting it.
Thanks,

JD430 tracks
I am looking at purchase of a 1960 JD 430. The front idlers are worn thin and the rails look like they have seen their better days. The rear sprockets and bushings don't look too bad. My question is, what other models will the track parts fit from? Will the 40 idlers and tracks fit on a 420 and 430?...
