I'm about done with a 52 MC and I'm doing exactly what Duke said. It is working out fine for me. I would suggest that you touch up with the same paint you sprayed initially. BBJ

Thanks for the advice guys. The driveshaft actually feels relatively tight on the input shaft of the transmission. There is some play but not enough to cause me any alarm. It is good to know that I can reassemble without having to split at the moment. I've got the little engine back together after h...

MC driveshaft pin

Is there a way to get the pin in the driveshaft on a MC without splitting the center section away from the rear? What purpose does the pin serve other than to stop the drive shaft from moving rearward and disengaging the pilot? Would it be feasable to build a small spacer to install inside the rear ...

Thanks for the advice. I have never sprayed any paint without thinning either (automotive). Obviously the counter guy did not know what he was talking about. I am going after the paint tomorrow and will be sure to pickup the JD thinner as well.

Well...just called my "local" Deere dealer. They do keep the Classic Green in stock and it is only $64.89 a gallon!! The Yellow is $19.79 a quart. The parts guy said these are ready to spray with no additional additives needed. Guess this is a no brainer for me.

Thanks for the tip Lavoy.

Honestly...until just a few days ago I did not realize that Deere sold paint (don't know what I was thinking). Problem for me is the nearest (farm) Deere dealership is 50 miles away. Guess I could call them and see what they keep in stock. Thanks for the link Tigerhaze (I would have never found the ...

Paint codes

I know this question has already been asked a 1000 times...but I didn't have any luck finding it here on the site. Can anyone tell me the paint codes in DuPont or PPG for the correct (or close) Green and Yellow for the MC's? Preferrably in a single stage. I just sold a 1944 styled B that had been pa...

Well guys...tore the little engine down and discovered the cause of the reported no oil pressure as soon as I slid the camshaft out. The 1/4" plug was apparently never reinstalled after the most recent rebuild. Its ashamed that the first person to crank the engine did not pay attention to the OIL PR...

Thanks guys. I had figured it needed to be torn down and looked at. Are the bearings now available in the usual undersizes? I noticed back in the day (in the shop manual) JD only offered .003 and .005 undersized. Also what overbore do the pistons come in? Good thing about a Crawler...you don't have ...

MC Low / No oil pressure

Just purchased a 1952 MC that someone had started restoring. Supposedly the engine was gone through but Nephew to that person did not know how complete the overhaul was. Problem started when Nephew brought the Crawler home and started using it. He said he heard it "chirp" and shut it down. Long stor...
