Carb question
Is there supposed to be something in this hole? Tsx777 carb. Looks like a piece of brass jammed down there. Engine will only idle with mixture all the way in.

To "turn the pins" do I need to press them completely out and then basically press them back in upside down from the way they are on now? When I restore this I am fine with spending the money to do it right. As of right now I close on my new home 4-2 about 2 1/2 weeks from now and need this machine ...

Here are 2 pics of the bushings, after what I have read I believe them to be shot. So recommendations on new bushings / finding good used tracks etc. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a481/bob440ic/0826765B-38E2-47AD-898D-2F218A6B0951-66153-00000F4A6D3B3FD1_zps366f0bec.jpg http://i1280.photobucket...

440 ic rails, sprockets etc
Upon doing more research and reading countless post on here I have pretty much come to the conclusion that my rails and sprockets are trash, front wheels are ok, and chain needs pins and bushings. Please see pics and chime in. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a481/bob440ic/54C968F1-64BF-4267-8CEE...

First crawler
Going to try to post a pic from the day I towed it home. I have set up a photo bucket account so we shall see. Any way this is my new to me and first crawler. I believe by the serial number it is a 1959 440 ic. It would barely run when I got it. Had trouble just getting it on the trailer. I put new ...

I saw Lavoy's response but I don't know how you'd find 23-deg on the motor unless you attach a Degree Wheel to it. The only marks, at least on my flywheel, are the "D-C" (TDC) and "SPARK" as described in my post. The SPARK line must be at 23-deg BTDC, I suppose.[/quote] My timing light has a dial o...

Wow Soffiler thanks for the detailed reply. I appreciate that and it is exactly the info I needed. I assume a timing light hooked to the number one plug wire and flashing through that window in the bell housing would allow you to set the timing while its running at the recommended 23*? Just like set...

Hmm i had read the same thing, but also found somewhere that deere made them up to 63 as well. It does say 440 on both sides and does say 440ic on the ID tag. The serial number seems to be much later then what I find when looking for parts though. Mine looks just like this one that Lavoy just posted...

440 gas timing
I purchased my first crawler, a 1963 440 gas. It was popping out of the exhaust pipe, and was running a little rough. The boots on the wires were falling apart so I replaced them, new 216 plugs in it, cleaned up the points and closed the gap a little bit. It runs much better now and is not popping o...
