Ok thanks to all for the advice! I added a couple of shots of Marvel Mystery Oil to each cylinder, let it set for a few minutes, then turned it over 3-4 times with no plugs in. I tested cylinders again and got 110 psi #1 and 90 psi #2. Is that close enough to run? Seems like to me that is close enou...

I went to Autozone today and got a loaner compression tester. I get 60psi #1 & 45psi #2. I guess that will explain the starting issue? Or would it run just rough? Anyone know a good place to have the engine work done in NC?

420C starting issues

Hi all: I have a 420C that sat for many many years without being started. A few years ago I drained the oil, filled with Marvel Mystery Oil, and made a handle to try and unstick the engine gradually. After a few months of inching it along the engine freed up. This was my grandfather's machine that h...

420C Generator

Hi,
Working on getting my 420C running again. I have tested my generator and it needs to be rebuilt. Problem is the rear housing is broken and I need to replace it. Anyone have a scrap one or a new/rebuilt unit for sale?
Thanks, JD

Ok who can tell me how to tighten/adjust the fan/crank belt? It has loosened and won't turn without tightening it. By the way thanks to Lavoy for getting me some parts quickly!

I dumped some sea foam and B12 in the tank to soak. When I dumped it I didn't see any particles or rust coming out. I looked with a light and the tank looks pretty clean. I still have to rebuild the carb and get everything clean in the fuel system before I try to fire it up.

I had my buddy who does engine work check it and it appears to be pretty good. I am hesitant but would like to get the fuel system cleaned and see if it will start on its own. eventually I would like to rebuild where needed and make it into a mean machine again. Right now the fuel tank has maple syr...

Well after a fews days of soaking in blaster I can now spin the crank by my crank handle I made. I put the plugs in, charged the battery and it will turn over on its own. For now I want to get a carb kit and drain/refill the gas tank and fuel line to see if it will start.

Ok guys thanks for the help. I tried draining the oil and filling it back up with PB Blaster. I made a handle to turn the crank and it will turn but not easily. I pulled the plugs and when I move the crank PB Blaster comes out of one plug hole but the other does not. It appears that that cylinder do...

Thanks everyone for the responses and good advice. The pulley now turns pretty much with ease with a pipe wrench. I removed the plugs and still the engine does not turn over. I removed the valve cover and see no issues but I am no engine man. Can I test the valves to see if they are stuck and if so ...

420 crawler advice needed

Hi new member here. I discovered this board and wondered if anyone could give me some advice. My grandfather had a 420 crawler he used on his farm. It was parked running with new clutches about 25 years ago or so. It has been under a shelter and out of the weather for the most part except maybe blow...
