inspection hole in bell housing?

I've got a 78 JD 450c, had the floor plates out the other day and noticed a 2 inch inspection hole on upper left side in what i'm guessing is the bell housing. previous owner had duct tape covering it but wasn't doing a very good job. what is this hole for? Does it need to be covered/sealed at all t...

well guys, I bought a manual, adjusted the tracks and popped the seat up and off to check out steering linkage(s)....well simple fix, $2 roll pin broke in the right steering brake pivot linkage, little bit of a pain to get to but we got'er. thanks for the guidance....

the whole side case and brake won't interchange..dealer told me the internal brake band in relation to the bar mounting studs are way different. but just the handle might work.. :D ...husky dealer also said the next closest saw to the 281xp would be the Husky 2100.. I'll look closer at the 61 pics ,...

I am looking for late 80's husqvarna 281 XP chain break handle....the metal one not the plastic. anyone have one laying around in their shop, barn, Garage????????it's a discontinued part , i checked ebay , craigs list and local shops......nodda..please help!

thanks for the advice. yes it was all of a sudden. just no right stick control. I think its a 79 450c. is it hard to change the hose?

79 JD 450c track tensioner adjustment?

How do you adjust tracks on this machine? also I lost right steering control and believe linkage came apart under the seat/gas tank area how do I access linkage area to check? Everythings looks right and together all the way back to the fuel tank....tips, tricks, Pics????

seems to shift from foward to reverse quit smoothly but I get an occassional clunk sound. I have read 100's of post(s) on this forum before asking this question and have not seen or found a diffiniative answer yet.
Q: Can I power shift from forward to reverse and vice-versa with out using clutch and/or coming to full stop?

Q: What is correct shifting procedure?

Note: I am in 1st gear
