wallowed out hole fix

Last fall while using my 1010 I noticed the bolts holding the final drive to the dozer were coming out of the casting. So, last winter, I pulled everything off of the side. Found out that there were 7 broke off bolts holding the final drive on. Drilled/heated/oiled all of them till I got-em out. Cle...

JD 350 value

Lavoy; It's a straight 350, no letter designations at all. It has a bucket/loader setup on the crawler. Sorry about the "dozer' terminology, but everyone around here calls them a dozer, and no matter what brand they are, they are all called "cats". lol It does not have a blade. It moves forwards and...

JD 350 value

The neighbor has a JD 350, for sale. They don't know what to ask, and I don't know what to offer. Its a loader dozer, with a brand new rebuilt 3 cylinder, diesel. I talked to the guy that rebuilt the engine, he said it had a broken piston, so they replaced everything. Drive sprocket and idler sprock...

I drove it out of the shed yesterday, drove around some, went into the ditch. It drove, I thought alright on the flat. Now I can't get her to climb out of the ditch. All th...

420 hydraulic question

Well, they are both sitting on my bench.
Nothing hooked to the dozer.
You'd sure think they would collapse.

420 loader/crawler hydraulic question

The top two cylinder's on my loader are leaking fluid. They are the short one's, with the 2" diameter ram. I took them apart to replace the seal's. I can't get the cylinder to compress, is this due to the safety valve? If so how do I get that valve out of there? I have them off the dozer, so I could...

Help, I need a part for my 420

Finally got the 420 tore, in half. Got the clutch fixed, I actually have freeplay at the pedal. One of the clutch finger's was also cracked. Slipped the engine back on today, and am putting it back together. Hope it move's when I'm done. LOL I could use a few part's. I need one of the stud's/nut's, ...

420 clutch

It's a later model, 115,000. No free travel at the clutch, it's under tension all the time. When I got the clutch back, everything was mounted to the flywheel, all I did was bolt up the flywheel, and aligned the pilot shaft, with a plastic gauge. They told me to adjust nothing, just mount it up. I'm...

420 clutch problems

The whole clutch/flywheel assembly was rebuilt, and set-up by Lakehead Clutch in Duluth, Minnesota. I'm figuring they did it right. I can only get about 30-40 degree's of play on the adjusting cam, I figure this is where my problem is at. I had the clutch pedal pushed in, and It didn't seem to make ...

420 clutch problem

Lavoy; Would there have been any way to get that adjusting cam in there backwards, upside down, or off 180 degrees? I don't want to pull that engine, just to find out there's nothing wrong. There's pretty good tension on the clutch pedal, could that keep me from being able to adjust the clutch stud? ...

420 clutch problem

I have a JD 420. It was a wreck, I finally have most everything fixed. I've had the whole thing apart, including the engine. Now the engine run's good, but I can't get it to move. There is tension on the clutch pedal, from the time you start pushing it in. I know about the adjusting nut, on the side...

420 timing

I have a 420, been fixin on it, off, and, on for the last year. Had the engine rebuilt by a JD mechanic, yea right. I have never had the engine fired. I quit on it last spring, now I want it out of my shop. NO, it isn't for sale, I have rebuilt everything, I need to get it running! A couple of quest...

420 distributor cap

Chuck; I had the head off(don't ask),with the front cylinder piston at top dead center, the DC is in the timing hole. The notch in the distributor shaft is facing the front cylinder. This all looks correct to me. I still think its the cap. Any other ideas? What makes the caps not interchangeable, ju...
