Re: John Deere track wear gauge

If you know what the measurements are supposed to be, you could probably make the gauge?

Re: Is there an easy way to time balance shafts from underneath?

So, I tried getting the port side balance shaft to match the starboard one, and I think I succeeded. The teeth on the gears are coarse enough that there is only one position which looks pretty close. I guess I'll find out if I'm close enough when I start it up!

Re: New oil pump doesn't fit

So the new pipe does fit, but it's sloppy loose in the block, same as the old one was. There is no provision in the block for an oring, so I guess it's supposed to be that way? Does anybody know for sure whether this oil pump output tube is supposed to be a loose fit, or what to do if it's not suppo...

Re: New oil pump doesn't fit

It showed up today, and it did the job. That extra bend in it does the trick.

What do I owe you for the new pipe?

Re: New oil pump doesn't fit

Yes, I sent Lavoy a message, asked him if he could get his hands on one to see if it has different bends.

Re: New oil pump doesn't fit

I was finally able to get the Deere parts catalog to load for me, and it's Oil Tube, part 16, PN R113752, crosses to PN A-R113752. https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/sidebyside/equipment/73571/referrer/navigation/pgId/18723 Putting the number here so I can find it later when the site won't load dur...

Re: New oil pump doesn't fit

Do we have a part number for a new tube? Is it the same part number but a new shape? If it's as simple as buying a new tube, that's an easy solution!

New oil pump doesn't fit

Lavoy sold me a new oil pump for my 450C, and it fits perfectly, EXCEPT it points the output pipe in the wrong direction. Lavoy says that the part number is right, and I'm sure it is, but something is off. The output pipe is steel tube with a 90 degree bend. The long end jams into the oil pump end c...

Re: Is there an easy way to time balance shafts from underneath?

Thanks, Jim. That sounds a lot easier than getting at the front of the engine. I'll give it a shot!

Thanks, Kodiman. I'll write that PN in my little book.

Is there an easy way to time balance shafts from underneath?

On my 450C, when I took the oil pump off, the left balance shaft rotated. The manual tells how to time it with a straightedge, but that requires pulling the front cover off the engine, which requires all sorts of mess and irritation I don't want to get into if I don't have to. Is there a short cut t...

Re: Where do you buy your parts?

Here, then ebay, then local dealer as a last resort. The JD dealer in Fairbanks isn't bad, but isn't cheap and doesn't stock much for my old machine.

Re: 450c oil pressure falls to 5psi at hot idle

I got the oil pump out tonight, and found that the drive shaft diameter is 0.0006 under the minimum spec. From memory I measured 0.6302, acceptable range is 0.6308-0.6312. I am not sure how to measure gear width, because they are 7 tooth. Sloppy clearances would keep pressure up when the oil was col...

Re: 450c oil pressure falls to 5psi at hot idle

There are two gauges, the factory gauge on the dash and an aftermarket one mounted nearby, and they give similar readings. I would like to have a good, reliable test gauge, where would I look for one?

Re: 450c oil pressure falls to 5psi at hot idle

Thanks, Bruce. I had to pull the oil pump to get at some of the bits in there, but I didn't think to check the clearances while I had it out. I didn't check the cam bearings. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a gasket between the oil pump and the block? I don't remember putting a gasket on...
