Re: 1977 JD 450c Loader has no power in reverse

Yes, 1/8" NPT. Mine was a bear to get out. Stripped the hex out, had to remove valve and drill it out and re-tap. Not my write-up. I got it from a number of posts from Roy and I've hung onto the information. Mine needed to be adjusted because I was having the same issues you are having now. Good luck.

Look at the clutch control valve, 20-7. Also here is a write up from Roy Suomi about getting the pressures and adjustments correct fo the HLR. I know it's long but it may be helpful, I know it was when I was having issues. Roy Suomi Re: JD 450 Clutch Adjustment in reply to Tweeter, 11-19-2006 16:50:...

Re: Leaky fuel injector pump

I've rebuilt my pump, mouse turds. You can remove the cover without taking the pump off. If you remove the pump you want to get all the marks lined up before doing it. Motor needs to be a TDC with pin installed in flywheel and marks on pump lined up, To see the marks inside the pump remove the timin...

Re: JD 450C radiator issues

Could the large piece of metal been a piece of plastic? When I replaced my water pump because of a bad bearing I noticed that my impeller was made of plastic. WHen the bearing went bad fan hit radiator and shroud which trashed the fan of course but it also broke off all the impeller blades. You may ...

Re: 450c exhaust manifold smoke

Mine did/does the same thing. As you have done, I've replaced some of the injector leak off lines and fittings but it took some time for the leaked fuel to get burned off. DId you replace the fittings as well? That is where most of mine was coming from. It is/was leaking at the ferrule fittings, I s...

Re: Hour Meter: To Believe or not to Believe. That is the question...

I, generally, don't buy vehicles or machines buy their age. I prefer things pre computer/circuit boards. I try to judge things by the condition they're in. gregjo1948 Agreed. I like working on the older per computer stuff as well, to a point. My exception is vehicles with carburetors, I hate them w...

Stan, I know what you mean. I was involved in offshore boat racing from ~92 - 2003. APBA Super cat class and then OSS as a technical inspector .....very expensive. It's was said if you couldn't walk into a bathroom and flush a hundred dollar bill down the toilet you didn't belong in offshore boats r...

Not a problem, too cold outside to be doing any knuckle busting right now.

B Town, Happy new year to you also.

Thanks for the advise. Do you by chance have a PN for the NAPA starter?

450C Loader Starter

Of course now that it's cold my starter, more specifically the drive, is starting to act up. It will spin the motor over a couple revolutions then kick-out or de-clutch and spin. Since I got the loader the starter never sounded what I would call strong. Some one at some point had it rebuilt since it...

Re: What is the Cut-Off Temperature for Bulldozers?

Hydraulic Oil and Diesel is not a good idea. There are a number of companies that make hydraulic fluid that has the low viscosity index you are looking for at those temperatures. It is generally a Military spec fluid, Castrol is one company that we use that offers a fluid that flows at low temperatu...

Buy the "Umbrella seal tool" and give them a smear with diesel when you replace them and thread the shaft back into the pump to reinstall.

Very wise suggestion.

Search mouse turds. Common problem, pellethane ring on governor coming apart probably blocking check valve on top.

Re: 450C hydraulic pump removal

Is there a way to test the volume/pressure? Short answer, yes. But, most people don't have the correct tools to do it. Would require a flow meter, relief valve so you don't blow it up or shear the shaft, a needle valve to restrict the flow of fluid and a pressure gauge. Would be cheaper to just get...

Re: 450C hydraulic pump removal

If your's is like mine it has a gear pump, an aluminum bodied gear pump at that. They really aren't rebuild able, other than seals if it were leaking externally. Was it making noise when warm and worked hard? As suggested, it's much easier to R & R the pump with the nose off.
