Thanks for the reply Ben. I took the entire assembly off. On mine, the cover with the quadrants is all one piece, not a separate section. With the assembly off, that is when I tried to move the forks back and forth. Maybe there is something with the interlock pin? I checked the gears out from above,...

420 shifting problems

Hi All, It's been ages since I have posted anything here. I am having some issues with my 420 crawler. I was dozing last fall, doing some cleanup, and I had it in 1st gear. When I tried to go into reverse it wouldn't shift out of first. Now, this is an old machine of course and the shifting has been...

I'm going to check out the wiring today, but I think I know what the problem is, and I think it was mentioned already here too. I spoke with a different parts guy this morning and asked about the positive ground points. He said he had never heard of them, and when I explained what was happening, he ...

On second thought. I think you have my email in your files. If you want to send me an invoice for the parts I can pay either via paypal or other credit card. Than I will have them for when it does warm up.

Thanks again, John

Lavoy, I will get back to you when we get a break in the weather. Sorry for the delay in responding. Usually when there was any action on this thread, I would get an email about it. Haven't gotten one and figured that it had kind of faded out! This machine has always been 6volts. We bought it from t...

what would the shipping be to zip 49935 for the parts mentioned?

Do you also do pin and bushing of tracks? Do you have pads available too? My 420 has pads that are I think 14" and some that are 12". My 430 has the wider pads, but I don't want to rob anything from that one.

Do you have the proper points too? How much for a cap, points and condenser. I already have a new rotor and wires.

I looked around the site some, but not extensively, do you have a lot of parts for these machines?

I did replace the condenser both times I replaced the points. I also put on a new rotor the last time and new solid strand wires. Would have put a new cap on too, but they didn't have one. New spark plugs too. When I stop at Napa, I'll see if they have a cap too. I was going to go out and try a diff...

It does Hertz, Hertz like heck! Especially at 60 cycles per minute, which approximates the beating of the heart and is what makes household current so dangerous! I go past a Napa center on my way to work and I'll stop in and ask about the points. I do have a condenser that I can put on and see if th...

So, I guess now I am getting confused about this. Does the 8 volts raise havoc with the ignition or not? If it does, and that's why the points went bad so soon, then that gives me a valid reason to go to a new 6 volt battery. I got a pretty good deal on the 8 volt battery and it's only about a year ...

Well, looks like I need to be shopping for a new battery then. I have another good coil off my parts machine and I'll get a new set of points as well. So, another question about the battery. The battery is only a year old, and the battery in my Ford 8N is shot... I think the Ford has a magneto syste...

I didn't know there was such a thing in the points. I asked at the supply for points for the 420, I assumed they were the proper ones. When i looked at the points tonight, they were showing roughness. I sanded them down with 400 grit body shop sand paper and then worked a dollar bill between them to...

420 running issues, spark, battery, points?

Hi All, I think this may be my first post here ever! Have a question about my 420. First though, some history on it. My dad bought this used 25+ years ago and rebuilt the engine on it. He used it off and on for a few years, probably less than 100 hours on it. In the last 15 years that he was alive, ...
