Yup, just foul, black oil.
She’s old. We’re just trying to keep her going.
My son has the crawler now to clear his place.

Re: 450B front idler and 4/1 questions

Thank you for the reply. Previous owner wasn’t kind with this machine. I think it either threw a track or was put on its side- one front idler had broken spots on flange. I replaced that idler w one from salvage yard. But, not sure if either is Deere or not. One had the Allen plug in bolt other side...

450B front idler and 4/1 questions

Afternoon, The ol’ 450 hasn’t been used in a bit so I’m looking to get it to my son who just got some acreage. The front idlers had some pretty black oil and I was hoping to flush out. Question: does the front idler axle have lube passage going all the way through? Inside bolt is dry and probing tha...

Re: Seeking advice on replacing high pressure hydraulic line in a 450B

I have a 450B track loader. The low-pressure return line on mine is two-piece, with a rubber coupling connecting the two. A hydraulic shop was able to provide me with a 6” length of oil resistant hose. The high pressure lines on mine had a bad spot. I was able to thoroughly clean and braze the worn ...

Re: 450B power steering pump

Thanks for the suggestion.
My B uses the Fluid from the tranny for steering pump.
Changing to HyGard made for immediate improvement.
Didn’t want to risk damaging tranny using 303.

Re: 450B fluid types

JimB, You posted great info. Another forum recently posted a similar thread about 303. Described a lawsuit that exposed same- not a valid standard and basically bottling what’s mopped up off the floor. Wish you guys had posted this 6 mo this ago! Had changed my tranny screen and fluid and thought wa...

Re: 450B power steering pump

So, I know this thread has caused much debate. I thought I’d follow up. Figuring I was being conscientious, I had replaced tranny screen and fluid. Manual calls for 303 so used that. After is when I noticed rapid pulsing in steering levers when pulling back- in gear or neutral. Read in another forum...

Re: 450 steering brake adjustment

Sounds like maybe your steering clutch isn’t releasing and the brake is doing your steering while the clutch is still allowing power to the right (lugging the engine). Maybe try pulling both steering levers back partway- If both steering clutches disengage, you should stop moving. If you start movin...

450B power steering pump

So, gonna test my power steering pump pressure per manual with a gauge but, thought I’d see if anyone has an idea what I have going on. 450B with power steering pump that doesn’t have reservoir- uses fluid from transmission. When pulling on steering levers, there is a rapid pulsing felt in the handl...

My 450B has it mounted on the forward bolt on the fuel filter mount.

Re: A “Thank you” for Lavoy and Inj pump question

Thanks.
You guys have given me a couple things to try.

Weather still hit and miss so will see how she does when actually working this spring and try some of the diagnostics suggested.

Re: A “Thank you” for Lavoy and Inj pump question

Certainly worth trying. Thanks guys. I’d left the #2 line loose and cranked to bleed when all new injectors in. When running, had to tighten a couple others that were weeping. Haven’t put under load but, don’t hear a miss and didn’t have a miss while working previously. I just thought it odd that I ...

I appreciate the reply.
Should have mentioned: had the valve cover off last summer to check clearances- they all were within spec.
