i finally got it. there was also a spacer on the shifter shaft preventing the fork from engaging reverse( like a piece of pipe slipped over the shaft during assembly at the factory)so i took it apart, removed the spacer, put it back together and i now have reverse. ill still have to tear it down and...

thanks for all the input guys. i did pull the cover from the shifter tower and sure enough there is a tab welded in to lock out the bottom left position. however , i still cant seem to get her into that shifter position with the cover removed with the machine running or shut down. its like it isnt t...

ANYWAY, the machine wont go backwards in any of the 5 positions

so i went out to the shop just to check myself . with the reverser in the forward position the machine moves forward with the tranny shifter in all 5 slots. my understanding is the gear pattern in the tranny is R-1-2 4-3 IM STUMPED.

mine doesnt. it wouldnt when the reverser was functioning. does that mean i have another problem? reverse in tranny is left and forward on the 1010 assume its the same on the 440

i dont really understand what possum is saying. if i put the reverser lever in forward and take of the handle how does that help me with backing up?if i put the gear shifter in the reverse position i still go forward with the reverser in forward.
