After thinking about your problem for a while I think the next step would be to bypass the hard lines up to the front of machine. You could cut a piece of hydraulic hose and loop it between the 2 nipples on the trans and run it that way to get it loaded. You will have to get the hard lines loose eno...

I had a similar problem when i got my 450. Since trans was low on fluid it had to have gone some where. Something that I would check is to see if front seal on input shaft is leaking. Crawl underneath and at bottom of bellhousing there is a drain hole. Most times there is a cotter pin in them to hel...

Finally, Light at end of tunnel for my 450(long read)

It has been a long road to bringing my 450 straight loader back to a functioning piece of equipment. Went and looked at it after seeing an ad for it on craigslist. Owner said it had been sitting for 5 years and had been working fine when one day it just quit moving. No forward or reverse. Previous t...

Steve, That was what I was thinking originally but the way there are machine marks on the flat top of the head and the chamfer is perfect I kind of discounted that idea. Thanks for your thoughts. I am hoping that they have been in there for a while and were dropped in by someone for some reason, and...

Mystery Bolts in bottom of 450 HLR

I pulled clutch pump this weekend to change seal and noticed input shaft wobbled around so i pulled front trans cover to check bearing. Bearing was bad. When I pulled front cover in the bottom of it was bearing cage material and 2 pieces of what looked like plow bolts. Head on one of them was about ...

450 HLR input shaft

I have pulled engine and bellhousing to fix oil leak at trans pump. When I removed trans pump I noticed input shaft has about 3/8 inch side to side and up and down play. Parts schematic shows a ball bearing on shaft that I suspect is bad. When I drained trans oil I found a piece of ball bearing cage...

As soon as I started tractor after adjustment I could here transmission pump running. Will still pull engine to fix trans pump ...

HLR transmission pump

Was using backhoe on 450 straight for a while and ran transmission low on fluid. Transmission pump has leak. When I went to move machine noticed it did not want to move much so I shut it off and refilled trans. Does not want to move. Pulled pressure port plug to check pressures and have almost no fl...

Brought loader home on friday. Was using around the house mostly the hoe to dig some stuff and just figure out which things to fix first. Transmission pump leaks draining oil down into bell housing. Turns out it leaks a lot, trans started to get low on oil and did not want to move so I shut if off a...

When I went back to work on tractor I crawled under and worked the cotter pin around and got it to come unplugged. It then drained for the next couple of hours and a couple of gallons of oily water drained out. Another thing to do every once and awhile to keep it from happening again.

I ran the loader for a while yesterday and ran into a problem. It has been raining heavily for a couple of days. Once when starting the loader, my wife noticed that a bunch of rusty water squirted out of one of the holes in the starter body. Kept working for a while and then noticed milky water and ...

Drain plug on 450 clutch bellhousing

Is there a drain plug on the engine drive clutch bell housing? If so does anyone know what size tool it takes to remove it.
Thanks

Scottyb,
The cylinders will be noticeable from under the seat? Are they on top of housing or on sides? I would Imagine that there would be a hydraulic line that runs to them. Hard or flex line if so? Reservoir was dry so may have to look for leaks there also after I fill it.
Thanks
