Straight 450 loader repower

I have a 1966 straight 450 loadèr. I love it, use it all the time. When I can keep it running. Unfortunately my engine is tired, and it had a worn slap out CB injection pump. I can modify the engine with parts to use a DB pump, but that will cost $1000-1500. The engine is also sorely in need of a co...

I have two in my 450. I put them in with the positives facing each other, made a little jumper, and hooked them both together. Then I made a longer jumper, to connect the grounds together, then ran a new ground under the seat to a cleaned spot under a transmission bolt. Originally it was grounded to...

Thanks for the heads up. I have a bunch of new hose and hard line 90s I saved from a military wrecker I parted out. I am sure I can make something work.

I had the same thing happen with a 450 I bought. I imagine the setup is close to the same. Some simple adjusting of the clutch and brake linkages got it to turn on a dime in both directions and leave change. Was very easy to do by following the directions in the manual. If you don't have a manual fo...

I am glad I was digging through the recent threads.

I just finished a road job for a friend, and noticed a hydro leak in the same location as mentioned here. I know now what to look at first, probably saving me lots of time.

Love this forum! really helps to keep the old girl going.

Hello! I will be needing to do this conversion soon to my JD450. Can I ask where you found the parts? And what parts did you need? As for your problem, would it be possible to bend the throttle lever away from the block? Without having one to see I don't know if there is even enough room between whe...

I have a straight JD450. I got it cheap taking a chance on it I have only put maybe another $500 into it. My loader wouldn't turn to the right like yours wouldn't turn to the left. After using the manual to adjust the clutch and brake band, she works great. I also agree that that loader is priced to...

It has been awhile since I posted last but things are going well. I replaced all the rubber T lines on the injection return lines. The alternator was not working, just had it tested an hour ago, it works fine, so I need a regulator (in fact I logged in so I could get the correct serial number out of...

Thanks for the link to the manual- I have been cruising Ebay for one but must have missed that one. I ran her quite a bit yesterday- found out a few more things. -engine temp gauge needs to be replaced -transmission temp gauge or sender (I am assuming it is electric) needs replacement, or I just was...

Ok, I have added 5 gallons to the hydraulic tank, and the loader works great. Nice and smooth with just a little play in some of the pins. Changed the engine oil out and will see how long it takes to get milky, based on that I will either use for a short time then rebuild the engine, or go ahead and...

Success!

Watch-

Steers on a dime and gives change to the left, not so much to the right, takes the whole dime.

Hydraulic fluid is low so I didn't operate the loader, it was still chained up. Full fluid flushes and change outs are next.

But I'm one happy camper!!!

Sometimes persistance pays off. I took the pump down again, checked everything by the book, pulled the little ball out that was in the shaft behind an epoxied in plug (I didn't mess with that last time) cleaned it and reinstalled it and put her all back together again. Put it in a vise, hooked up a ...

Most everything I have with the old generators or oddball alternators or regulators I convert over as soon as I get any trouble out of it. I have great luck going to u-pull-it auto salvage yards. I don't know how many times I've come across a vehicle that has a brand new alt and regulator, or just o...
