Re: 450 operators manual, anyone?

Thanks Jim, that is a huge help. Could you tell me where the sender is located, please and thanks?
it may be obvious when I lift the seat but thought I would ask before I head out to the field.

cheers

Re: 450 operators manual, anyone?

Thanks guys, Well I could buy the download, right now the dollar is about $1.45 per US dollar, so $50 would be $74. I'm not working right now so cash is slim...I hit the obvious spots with grease and checked the tranny fluid today so it should be safe to run. I need to find the temp sender for the t...

450 operators manual, anyone?

Good day all, I need to do a quick service on my 450C and am wondering if anyone has a scanned copy that could be emailed to me? Neighbor needs some help with his property this weekend and I haven't really done a service on this since I bought it, need lube points etc. I don't want to just jump into...

Re: Intake air heater for my 450C

Thank you Lavoy, glad someone stepped in to help me with this and thank you for correcting me re: the engine. So other issues, darn. Well I haven't really done anything to this since I bought it except for new starter and block heater. I need to go thru the whole machine and give it a full tune, inc...

Re: Intake air heater for my 450C

Well I found an entire grid heater "kit" from JD, LVB25110, which should fit the intake elbow and bolt spacing etc....... HOWEVER I may just be wasting my time as I have been reading about IDI vs DI engines and the use of heaters seems to be only used on DI engines. I may still try something reversi...

Re: Intake air heater for my 450C

In the last 2 hours of research I have found that many JD machines use the heater unit RE29658 and similar, which has a 7/8"-14 thread. I entered that number to see what machines it is used in then tried to cross reference my intake manifold # T30201, no matches. I found that the 2 threaded holes on...

Intake air heater for my 450C

I have installed the new starter and she spins over quickly now, and starts fine when plugged in for a few hours, but it still has a hard time starting when it is above freezing but below 10C unless it's plugged in or I use ether, which I don't like to use, so I am going to install some form of air ...

Re: Help removing/dismantling a 450C starter

Yes, I actually updated the story in the thread about the destroyed starter. It turns out there is a hole in the side frame which I didn't see at first, but once I saw it, took 10 minutes to get the starter out. Going back in the bottom bolt was actually easier for me to get on, 5 minutes, th...

Re: Winter starting a 450C. Block heater? Tank heater? My options??

An update to the story... I installed a new gear reduction starter, man what a difference, she wizzes right over in fine style. See my other thread for the starter failure story. :? Yesterday I installed the KATS 850W heater, plugged it in this morning for 2 hours and when I went to start it the hea...

Re: Catastrophic starter failure. 450C ...CAUTION graphic images

The new starter arrived and I installed it today, took about a half hour to complete, the top nut was actually harder getting on than the bottom bolt, was the opposite of removal. So I ended up buying the 140-914 6601 and it was $100 cheaper than the one that was "supposed" to be the correct ...

Re: Catastrophic starter failure. 450C ...CAUTION graphic images

Jim B is right on the money with his suggestion , but maybe also check wiring/ key or starter button for sticking and keeping starter engaged. Agreed, the starter button had been sticky with ice but I (usually) am aware of it after each start. It's possible I missed it this time. It's on my list if...

Re: Catastrophic starter failure. 450C ...CAUTION graphic images

Suppose the drive hung in and took the starter way, way overspeed? That will mess a starter up bad, in a hurry. Jim you are indeed a wise man...and now considering the condition of the other end (bendix end) I think you nailed it. I was wondering why the shaft had turned blue right in front of the ...

Re: Catastrophic starter failure. 450C ...CAUTION graphic images

Well it was thought that a mouse got in there and made a nest, but I couldn't figure out how that would happen. I'm guessing it's the fabric that usually insulates the field coils around the case perimeter, but it was all sitting at the bottom, and so much fine wire and the comm bars...I just can't ...

Catastrophic starter failure. 450C ...CAUTION graphic images

So after I figured out how to get the starter out, it took all of 10 minutes (I can't believe I didn't see the hole in the side frame to allow access to the bottom bolt). Put it on the workbench and dismantled it....It was working last time I ran it, and the brushes looked new and commutator looked ...

Re: Help removing/dismantling a 450C starter

I'm heading to town to get chimney and flashing so I'll stop by my friends shop and borrow an impact swivel socket, have another go at this weekend.

Appreciate all the guidance. I don't recall my 350 starter being as difficult, this must be a bigger starter. :D
