Re: 1957 420C - Pressure in fuel tank
I had the same problem with fuel tank pressurizing this past summer. The gas tank has started weeping around the seam of tank up next to the throttle area. Have a new style fan blade now installed that was supplied by Lavoy and another tank to go in. Will see how this goes. One thing I did notice th...

I just went through a 420 crawler completely. Purchased it with a busted final drive housing. But the more you looked at it at and inspected, there was more that needed repair / replacement. It wound up being a 4 year project and a lot of money. It now has every bolt new, except the engine bolts, re...

420 gas line
What size and threads is the nut that screws on the elbow with a strainer that is screwed into carburetor? It looks like 1/4" tubing but only goes on about 1 turn before tighting up which is not enough to compress the ferrule.

front idlers
Lavoy, On the front idlers you have ( 2 ) ribs that stick up and and go all the way around the rim. These ribs are to run in the center of the track. My question is if one of the ribs are worn both down in height, and also thin side to side, Is this critical or can the idler still be run. Another th...

front idlers
Getting ready to start working on the frame where the front idlers and rollers are mounted. The two that came off of the crawler when running were approximately 18.5" dia. With the crawler came some extra parts which included some more front idlers. These are approx. 20.5" dia. The crawler is a 420c...

Throwout bearing carrier
Lavoy, The throw out bearing carrier JD pt.# M 1617T. Had both final drives in the tractor and in adjusting the throwout bearing on one side the bolt hole stripped out. That is one problem. The other problem / question I have is that when you are adjusting the throw out bearing, once you slide the b...

Lavoy, The equalizer spring that goes inside the ring gear shaft where the high speed pinion shafts of final drive goes in. Is there one or two used? Also where all do I need to mic to give you the information to supply master links for my 420c tracks? Also could you once again tell me the way to re...

420 bull gear ratio's
When I tore down both of my final drives on my 420c, one side had the 63 tooth bull gear and 16 pinion gear combination, and the other side had the 55 tooth bull gear and the 14 pinion gear combination. I have a couple of old gears and was wondering which ratio works best for the 420c model?
