Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Question

On the latter point, it has been interesting to see how things really are in 2020 in private industry. I grew up very old school, and most of my family had their own businesses whether it be farming, logging or carpentry. So I guess I have higher standards, but I always had taken employers at their ...

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Question

I have had sick children the last few days, so I have not gotten a lot done on this. I know people think that it is easy being a Trophy-Husband , but it can be stressful some days! (LOL) It is good to hear that the pump would probably work. I did forget, until I was looking at the tank, that it will...

Mechanical Fuel Pump Question

How far will a mechanical fuel pump pull fuel? I have looked all over the internet and I cannot figure out the answer. On my Generator Project, it has a mechanical fuel pump that draws the fuel from a tank and delivers it to the fuel filters on top of the engine. But I do not know where that fuel t...

Re: I Must Have Looked Pretty Dumb

It is interesting in that where I live; we have two extremes. Statistically speaking, and going by capita; the town I live in has the lowest crime rate in the country. There are reasons for that, like the police looking the other way, a district attorney that will not prosecute much, and juries that...

Re: I Must Have Looked Pretty Dumb

As an interesting note perhaps: I have started writing my next book. It has got a long ways to go yet, but is really taking shape, and semi-relevant to this forum... Homemade Implements As many of you know, for 23 years I was a Welder/Machinist, working in construction, then the railroad, and finall...

Re: I Must Have Looked Pretty Dumb

I am not sure if I updated everyone on that book... It is all done, but they say a writer should have a copy editor look at the book for grammar, spelling, and punctuation corrections and all that, BUT they cost about $750. I do not have that kind of money, so I was just going to publish as is and h...

I Must Have Looked Pretty Dumb

Being sick, I often do not sleep well, so most nights I move to the couch so that I do not wake Katie. Anyway, a few weeks I ago I am asleep on the couch, the TV on and my dog is outside. She barks when she wants to come in, and was she ever barking. I mean really barking, so I think, "Man, she real...

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...

Well I had an epiphany today; to keep this project on the low cost status, I realized I could steal all the components I need for a start circuit off from another generator that I have kicking around. This one is from the way, way, way ack time machine: a 3000 watt 1 or 3 phase generator from 1943.....

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...

I did not make much progress with the Genset today... I got the wiring all situated, and figured out. It was pretty easy once I got going. The "Pucks" as I call them, are just motorized solenoids that threw the engine into shutdown mode if oil pressure, coolant, etc was dangerous, and the other one ...

Re: "pic-server" info

I use IMGBOX, but could use the JDCM dedicated server, but I could not seem to log in.

IMGBOX was down all weekend, but is working now.

Sorry to hear about the older person's health issues, I understand that for sure.

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...

Right now all the wires are attached as they were from the factory, I managed to cut all the tie-wraps off the wires, and the plastic protectors that spiral on, I am not sure if this is the way to go or not? I will get some pictures today if I can. I use IMGBOX for picture hosting, and they have bee...

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...

How do you guys deal with the wiring on repurposed engines? Do you remove it all completely, and then put back just what it needs to run... or Do you trace back the original wires to their source, and just get rid of the crap that is not needed? I ask because this has a wazoo of wires. It also has t...

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...

Well I am making significant headway now, the tearing apart is done, and the rebuild starts... I did not need any oil to get the engine unseized, in fact I would not even call it "seized" but maybe "stuck". I threaded in some bolts on the flywheel, put a short bar between the bolts like a spanner wr...

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...

So that is the overall plan, now back to the technical issues... Anyone know the best way to unseize a diesel engine that has been sitting in storage a long time? It was under cover inside a building so the diesel engine is in really good shape. It is also entirely intact although the reefer unit wa...
