1950 MC- Forked End Piece for Tensioner Spring
I have a 1950 MC which needs the cast forked end which attaches to the track adjuster spring. I was looking over my track on one side and discovered that the cast end which anchors to the center piece is missing. The outer tensioner spring has this piece as does both the inner and outer spring on th...

Feedback on Electrical Issue
I did find out that my 1950 MC had been converted to a 12 volt system which included a Delco Remy Alternator. I loosened the belt so it had 1/2 " slack in the middle of the belt. I also found an ignition wire that was bare in one spot and had shorted out to ground. I replaced the alternator plug and...

Wiring Caught Fire When Started.
I believe that my battery must be grounded wrong as my wires caught fire as soon as I started the engine. A section of wire burnt before I caught it and now that I have this issue with grounding what must I do to remedy this. Do I reverse the wires on the battery or do something else entirely ?

Reverting Back to 6 volt
Actually if this 1950 MC was originally designed for 6 volts then I would prefer to revert back to a 6 volt system. If I get a 6 volt battery and replace the sections of wire that caught fire, then I could proceed without any other modifications ? I don't really have access to anyone nearby to consu...

Model 12046 1950 MC- Question about Electrical System
I bought a 1950 MC last year and am confused about my electrical system. I just replaced the alternator belt and was told by a mechanic that I had a 12 volt alternator. My electrical system was originally designed for 6 volt but I have a 12 volt battery. Near the coil is some kind of ceramic block a...

Spring Head flew off Left side
Thanks for the information. I have my crawler on the third level of my property and will take my tools up with my quad and follow your recommendations. Does that square bar that is midway across both tracks have to be perpendicular to both sides and/ or equidistant from a specific point on both tens...

Spring Head flew off Left side
Last Saturday, My son and I were on a trail on my property. The crawler has been working fine and then my son went to move the crawler and the left side track started to come off. I noticed that the spring head was missing and we found it on the trail. I bumped the track on in reverse and I was able...

Final Drive Bolts to Frame
While examining My 1950 MC, I discovered that 4 bolts are missing from the left side of the final drive. Two long bolts in the back as well as two bolts which are above the inside access cap for bearing and nut access. I believe the best way to proceed is to remove the final drive after removing the...

Tapered Splines
I did locate a picture of the bull gear for the 1950 MC and it looks like the splines that I am seeing as the bull gear came unseated inside and moved outward. I am not sure but i think the bull gear must lock into a gear somehow . Before I order parts, I am going to see if I can look at the axle as...

Tapered Splines- On Axle
I am new to this forum and if the tapered splines run the length of the shaft, then possibly, that is what I'm observing. I will look at the link and files provided to me and get a better idea of whats going on. Thanks for everyone's input. I just bought this MC in October and didn't put 8hrs on it ...

JD 1950 MC serial # 12046
I located the serial number for the 1950 model MC Crawler- Upon closer examination, it appears that the nut that is tightened for the left rear axle has not loosened up. The nut and shaft have moved outside the track sprocket. I can see the key in the shaft in the portion that is protruding. I will ...

JD left rear axle
The nut and shaft are turning but not the track sprocket. I'm not sure if the nut is backed off . It looks like the shaft has moved outwards beyond the track sprocket. I believe that something has broke or loose on the inside. I will need to take the inside cover off to see what happened. I do appre...

Tracks Rubbing Reply
This Crawler is a 1950 2-cylinder and the previous owner put an aftermarket blade on it. This blade is 6 feet wide. This John Deere was just rebuilt before I bought it but the only major issue with it is the oil ring seals for 2 hydraulic lines that snap or twist in and the track on the right side w...
