550 Crankshaft Pulley 4-276 engine

My crankshaft pulley is lined with stainless steel where it goes through the timing cover and seal. It has grooves in it that look like its made that way. Is it suppose to be that way or are they worn in it? If so what can be done about the grooves?
Thanks,
Lew

Re: JD 550 Converter Seal and Winch Shaft

I'm not sure of the model number of the winch but the part number for the PTO shaft is T41213. I'm pretty sure it is the winch that came on it. It' look just like the one in the parts diagrams.
Thanks,
Lew

Good thing I did, reverse clutches were toast and third gear clutches we're much better, 2nd had wear also. Replaced all clutches disc and about half the steel ones, all sealings rings and piston rin...

550 TRANSMISSION HELP???

I’m trying to get the clutch packs out of the housing and I have all out except 1st and 2nd clutches. The manual has one line about it and it says to take bearing out with it? How do you get this clutch pack out? I appreciate any help, there has to be a trick to it?
Thanks,
Lew

Re: JD 550 Engine and Trasmission Rebuild

You’re right there are 2 on the bottom also but it still don’t want to separate. Something on the bottom is still holding it. I took out 4 bolts across the bottom, 3 up each side and the 2 Allen bolts on top, 2 bolts in each side of the frame, does anybody have any ideas???

JD 550 Engine and Trasmission Rebuild

Well I'm finally into it! Loaned my 550 to a friend and he ran it low on oil and rear rod bearing started knocking. So I've got the engine out and the crankshaft and the rod doesn't seem damaged but I'm going to get them checked. But while the engine is out I'm going to rebuild the transmission also...

JD 550 Crawler Tranmission

I have a JD 550 that I'm fixing up and it works really well except, when I'm working on steep grades. The forward and reverse seems to disengage. Reverse is worse but it happen in forward sometimes also. It's almost like it runs out of transmission fluid. The fluid seams to be correct when on level ...

JD 550 How many links in the track chain?

I just bought a 1980 model JD 550 that need new undercarriage, when I went to order it the salesman looked it up and thought that it called for 37 links but I had counted 36 links. Is there anyway that someone has taken a link out? Does anyone know for sure how many links it is suppose to have?
