Cat D3C II sold

I just sold my 1993 Cat D3C II and the new owner noticed my blade angling rams were loose were they attach to the frame. Took apart today and the ball and socket housing were gone on both sides - only the race left and about an inch and one half of play. New ball parts and pins and as good as new. Q...

440 hydraulic oil recomendation

Still working on the 440 wheel tractor that has a #71 loader. I have the reverser fixed and thanks to this site a new clutch. Its running now and I discovered the hydraulic pump is starving for oil. I removed the filter - metal mesh style that was collapsed. Deere wants $92 for a new one. Can't find...

I bought a 60 row crop from a guy in Missouri. Somewhere in southern Illinois at night on the haul coming back the entire seat frame assembly fell off. My hope is that it went into the ditch. Just the latch assembly was the only thing holding it on the seat slide. When i checked my other tractors so...

I once had chevy 327 that smoked more going up a steep hill. Removed
the valve covers and found the oil return holes at the rear of the heads almost plugged. Cleaned them out and problem was much less. Oil pooling
around valve stem seals was most of the problem. Drummer

When I store or work on my 440ICD and my Cat D3C I use four 2x10 by 12 foot oak planks. I just lay them on the concrete than back the crawler laying down the extra set as I go. You can even turn some without running off the boards. No damage to the floor and the tracks are on wood. If you work on a ...

To test for 12 volt coil check the resistance across the negative - positive terminals. A 12 volt will read 3.1 to 3.5 ohms and a 6 volt in the 1.4 to 1.6 ohm range. I've found over the years that most times you either have a bad set of points or a bad set of plugs when it comes to no or weak spark....

More on 440 Reverser bind

I couldn't just let this be and today split the tractor and took the reverser all apart. First off all bearings and seals are good. There is play in the front shaft bearing but no more than normal - no metal filings anywhere. The center housing, planetary gears, and bearings spin with ease and look ...

Thanks for reply. I was curious about that throttle. I've heard of the pilot touch but don't know much about it. I'm in no way interested in buying this crawler. I've owned a nice low hour original 440 ICD for years. It had an easy life on a sod farm and an easy life with me too. I've done the upkee...

traxcavator on e-bay

Was just cruising E-Bay and spotted a 440 "Traxcavator"? After looking at the photos it has a different handle - lever in the lower left dash and appears to be missing the throttle lever. Would this by chance be a "Pilot Touch" unit that the factory recalled most of when they were new due to most no...

I'm a member of the Baraboo show and just put in many hours helping getting ready, helping during the show, and clean up this past Monday. Last year we had John Deere as the feature and you would of had my 440 crawler and my 440 wheel tractor to take pics of. As it is the red crawler and scraper as ...

After reading the very good advice I've narrowed the problem to the front bearing in the reverser. With the reverser side cover removed I've got play in the front bearing. The reverser clutches seem ok and its hard to tell if the spider gears have a problem but I don't find play in them. I even remo...
