Stupid $895 mistake. That kind of thing is sure what I had in mind when I recently took my 1010 IP to the shop. But I really did need to spend the $750.33. (Central Motive in Albuquerque quoted more, but I didn't need some "hard" parts after all.) So, I guess I'm lucky. Sorta. I do recommend these ...

There was another guy recently asking a number of questions about 1010 diesels Maybe me (http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=10287&sid=463bb72f1805956a6d4e279e37c154b7). Tigerhaze's references were very, very valuable. I timed mine right on the timing mark, like the book says. (T...

Well, I'm sure it says "John Deere" all over it.

Trying to use an old tired memory here.... Doesn't the inj/pump have a window that should shows timing? I'm thinking there are marks on the flywheel also. Seems like there is 180 degree mark too. I remember popping out # 1 injector, rolling engine over by hand,( make sure to rotate engine in the sa...

The regular JB Weld does a lot better than the quick-dry flavor. But with oil in the hole, I'm pretty skeptical too. But what's the worst that could happen?

It is probably obvious to say this, but now that your glow plugs are working do not use ether. To do so could destroy the precombustion chambers on top of the cylinder heads. Yeah, I totally get that. When I needed ether, first turned the glow plugs off a long time to cool down. (They weren't reall...

Glow plug for at least 30 seconds even on an 80 degree day if the engine has not been run recently. Lavoy Don't mean to turn this into a never-ending saga. But I did something stupid with an indicator light. And now that the glow plugs actually get power, they work swell! The axles are a lot quiete...

Okay, it's front-right.
It runs, and not even a gob of smoke. But still needs either to start. Hopefully it'll get better with some runs to the post office.
Waiting for PTO seals; then fill the hydraulic fluid right, hook up the pump, and see if the rockshaft actually works. Baby steps.

firing order

Okay, the pump is back on, and it's bled to the injectors. I'll put the battery on the charger before firing up the (new!) glow plugs. But I want to verify the position of the #1 fuel line: is it on the right-front or right-rear banjo bolt? It was on the right front, but the PO had the timing all sc...

"Nothing moving insides" and "all stuck together". "Nothing broken" and "we got all the parts on the shelf". So, $700 instead of $900; and I'll get it back tomorrow. Also, mine directly superseded the number in the Parts Manual, so I don't have to fuss with funny timing. When I first put the IP back...

Continued thanks. I was going to ask whether they bench-test. And I need to check serial numbers. According to the Parts Manual, this isn't stock. It might've gotten swapped with a 2010. At any rate, I'll ask for any difference in the timing marks between this and stock. Maybe I'll finally have this...

Thanks. This shop came highly recommended (Central Motive Power in Albuquerque, NM). I just need to decide whether to put a crowbar in my wallet now or after screwing around with it longer.

$900 "to go through it". Seems steep -- is that the going rate?

If that is a mechanical fuel cut-off IP, you sure you have the throttle open far enough? I don't think it is because there's a separate shutoff valve. That lever is between the IP and block, and it's rotated full forward. I've been trying at a mid-throttle position. Full open has the throttle lever...
