Thank you all very much. I must have been reading about later crawlers using corn head grease. I have some regular grease that I use in the hay equipment and tractors and I'll see if I can find something heavier in town.

Other ways to lube 40c rollers temporarily

I have had a 40c for about 18 months now and am finally about ready to get it out in the woods and give it a try after replacing the left bull gear and a few other parts. It's a 1953, 3 roller, no blade, small winch on the back and I hope to use it to skid logs in places that are too hard to reach w...

Thanks, I would never have thought they would be the same for all that time. Seems like almost everything else got changed at one time or another along the way.

I have a pump from a 3 roller 40 but I imagine it may be different. I can take a photo if that would help. It was working when I removed it. I took the loader off the crawler and removed the pump and put a plate over the hole where it was mounted.

I get 10SI rebuild kits off eBay. There are a whole range of kits depending on how many parts you need to replace. The one I usually buy is around $15 and has the parts I generally need.

Mine came from about 5-1/2 miles away, I think. I paid $100 to have it moved here which was more than I had thought it would be but apparently the rollback driver I use charges more for track machines or something. Usually he's right around $5 per loaded mile. I haven't finished putting it back toge...

Wagner loader off a 40c, $250, in northern NY --Sold--

I don't know if there is any interest in these loaders but figured I'd post here just in case. The link will take you to a Craigslist posting with pictures and more information. Thank you very much.

Boler76, thank you. I can see that having a light blade would be handy, mostly for clearing snow in my case. I will keep an eye out for one once I get the crawler going. I will save the hydraulic pump on the shelf against the day I find something to use it with. I took apart the steering clutch stac...

Thank you Stan, that is great to hear. Tonight I got the fender and final drive off. There is some damage to each final drive case around one of the drawbar bolts but otherwise this one looks okay. The final drive oil pan was dry which may explain why the inner bearing was missing some rollers. Ther...

Thank you all very much. I will post some more pictures of the undercarriage later tonight and post a link once I do. I am hoping to get this crawler working at least well enough so I can try it out and see if a crawler is really helpful in the woods. I have always had the impression that it would b...

My first crawler-- a 40c with some issues

I am new to this forum and to crawlers but I have some experience with repairing wheel tractors of the same era. I've been reading all of the old topics on 40s that I could find on this forum and they have been very informative. I don't know how to embed photos but I have a few in a Picasa album at ...
