420 Axle seal

I took my left side final drive apart today to change a leaking axle seal and I noticed mine didn't have the proper seal it had 2 "typical" double lipped oil seals in its place. Now what I am wondering is if I can just replace those two seals with 2 more like them or is it necessary to have the prop...

I can grab a few photos of the blade tomorrow, I dont have any that actually show the trouble i am having, but these show the setup. there is a bar running between the two "Lift arms" that links them together. It is hard to tell from the pictures but they are no longer synchronized left to right, an...

In the long run I would like to build something very similar to yours however in the short term I need something to fix my current misalig...

420 blade tilt ideas

I was wondering if anyone has come up with a way to get some sort of adjustable tilt to the single lift cylinder blade setup. At some point in its life time the non cylinder side lift arm has been cut off and re welded at the wrong angle, which has given it about a 3 inch difference between the left...

Hydraulic valve options for 420C

My 420 hydraulic valve is cracked between the check valve port and the hydraulic line port. I attempted to weld it up, first brazing it but I ran out of oxygen, then with the mig. my weld cracked and it leaked worse. I took it off again and welded it up with a rod that is supposed to be for this typ...

I guess I will be making an end for my slide hammer tomorrow. There's not much local for those types of kits but I do have a slide hammer and am not scared to fab something up.

Thanks!

Final drive bearing race removal

I am wondering what tricks you folks have come up with for removing the outer race on the upper final drive bearing. I have the one out of the final drive housing. I am just looking for suggestions on the other one before I try it myself. We were thinking heating the outside and seeing if it will dr...

Thank you for the great ideas. I had heard about that trick for checking the valves before but completely forgot about it until reading your reply. My biggest trouble with trying to figure this out was that i couldnt turn the motor over by hand anymore. Once the rad was on I was unable to get enough...

I appriciate both your responses. As far the head gasket if that was the case would it not have suction on number one when number 2 is on compression? I'm just not sure how it would work one way but not the other. I'm going to attempt to start it shortly. If it runs hopefully it will clear up and is...

Thanks for the reply. This is not the first head I've done. I ground the valves on my td14. And I realize what lapping is for and to only spin back and forth. They looked really good. Nice dark ring on both the valve and the seat. Not trying to be rude just trying to explain better. This is also not...

1956 420C suction on exhaust manifold

I know this sounds pretty simple. Exhaust valve must be open. But I just cleaned the head and lapped the valves and they all looked really good. We set the valves but now when cranking over the engine there is suction on the exhaust manifold. It seems to be on #2 right before the exhaust valve opens...
