Re: Stuck (probably junk) engine

or.. you could really think outside the box and fashion something like a vid I seen on You Tube where a guy put a flathead 6 Studebaker engine in a 440 Deere dozer... dubbing it "The Studedeere" I have to hand it to the guy.. he did a fantastic job fitting it in there... even with the old 3 spd tran...

Re: 440ic Engine stuck

makes sense.. if the valves are closed. the hydraulic pressure created by the grease would increase with each pump of the gun handle.. great idea...

Re: My 1st Crawler - 440

Well.. today was the big day. After tweaking the timing, the jets in the carb and setting the gov, I finally put the old girl to the test. Started with a small mound of crap that had been piling up behind the greenhouse. 2 passes later and it was in the alders which it pulled a few out as well while...

Re: 1010 crawler parts

Welcome to the forum... a lot of great folk in here with a wealth of knowledge.... Lavoy, the gentleman who is admin of this forum also deals in vintage JD crawler parts also knows most of these old machines inside & out. He was a great help with not only parts but his vast experience. He was a grea...

Re: My 1st Crawler - 440

Hi, Skinned knuckles? When working on a crawler? I have never heard of such a thing! These things come apart with easy ease! (if you use enough dynamite, that is!) :P Really great news, though. That the thing is back together. Not the knuckles. :) Stan After quite a few skinning encounters... I wen...

Re: My 1st Crawler - 440

Been a long winter up here in the cold country.. snow didn't leave until near middle of May, Covid delayed parts ordered from Lavoy for at least 3 weeks extra... even with putting on the wrong frame rails and having to wait until snow melted to retrieve the right ones.. and the parts being delayed.....

Re: JD Construction Yellow Mix Ratio

it is thin.. but I found any less it started to get "pebblely" as it would lay down as pin head droplets instead of a very fine mist... if found my automotive hvlp gun and a mixture to 4:1 has given me best result of all mixes I tried... it might all depend on what thinner your using as well.. I'm u...

JD Construction Yellow Mix Ratio

My 440 resto is coming along pretty good. I should have the ol girl running in the next couple of days. I was fortunate that one the parts machine had a fresh rebuilt engine, but just as important, it came with 3 gallons of the correct JD yellow paint. I knew I wanted to spray the paint, but there w...

Re: 440ic Frozen Engine

I haven't had to do an engine from a crawler.. and many of the techniques mentioned are all things that can be done.. I have freed up snowmobile engines by putting them in a 30 ton press and giving each piston a little push... was successful many times.. not sure you could get a crawler twin onto a ...

Re: 440 ic gas 12v conversion

I ran into the same sort of thing with the final drives. One final had 6-7 clutch drum.. and the other 8-8. lucky for me having 3 machines, I was able to go 8-8. the shafts & pressure plates were all the same. Only difference is the bearing quill for the ring gear. In my situation trying to build 1 ...
