350b reverser issue
Thanks for the very useful insights. I would suspect a problem in the control valve (including the clutch valve) first. I will likely need help from a JD professional with the right pressure gauges first. I looked up the shaft coupling. Could be that - I have stripped splines before on hydraulic pum...

350B reverser issue
Engine does NOT load up. Increasing RPM has no effect - only if I reduce it to an idle and repeatedly pull/release steering levers can I get the machine to "inch" back up an incline. Slipping coupler? Where is that, and how common an issue? I have all the manuals, but am still relatively new to this...

350B reverser issue
350B crawler, 6 way. Dozer doesn't want to push in forward or reverse. Moves on flat ground and small incline, but will not pull its own weight if the incline is very steep - even in lowest gear. I changed the reverser filter (it was really dirty) and have adjusted the rate of shift screw out 1/4, t...

350b trans issues
Nice explanation, Stan. I learned some things from it too. I have a 350B and have had issue with the reverser and steering clutches. Mostly worked out now. You forgot to mention he needs to drop the belly pan to get to the reverser filter. You maybe could do it topside under floor pan, but that woul...

350b winch
I bet you paid a bundle for that control cable if you got it from Deere! $300 for mine. Your winch should spool out if you push the lever down which moves the hydraulic control lever to the left as I recall. Mine doesn't hold well when moving either. An experienced logger friend told me sometimes th...

350B reverser problems
Your reverser problems/quirks sound very similar to mine. See my posts on JD350B reverser problems. A number of subscribers posted suggestions - last one by NWJDFAN who wondered what kind of oil I am using. I use the good quality 303 he suggests and have changed my filter (which did look well used)....

New data
Now that I have more experience with the machine, I am getting more familiar with its quirks. The problem with the reverser seems to appear after a hard workout. Pushing a load uphill, or digging out a stump gets her tired and she doesn't want to push anymore. What think you? Obviously, I am heating...

Newer crawler and gray market
Yes, I am well familiar with gray market tractors and dozers. I have a Yanmar tractor that is gray market. an excellent machine, BTW. The trick is not to tip the US dealer off that you are looking for a part for a gray market machine. They will practically chase you out of the store. Especially a gr...

350B engine overhaul
I am getting a lot of blow by and smoke from my 152 diesel engine on my crawler and it generally runs rough without the power it should have. Yes, I have adjusted valves and replaced injectors. I have been wondering about doing an in-frame rebuild or maybe getting a new short block. Any thoughts out...

350B steering control shaft bushing
while adjusting my steering controls, I have noticed that the main steering control shafts (AT31637 & 38) have a lot of slop in their movement (At least 1/4 inch). Obviously the inside bushing (PN M1638) is worn out. I think my steering control adjustment would be much improved if I could replace th...

newer crawler
Lots of good feedback here. The 450G looks better all the time. I notice their price reflects their popularity too. I also discovered a Komatsu 31e with 3600 hours for under 15K. anyone have experience with that one?

450G
Thanks for feedback. Very helpful. I am trying to confine my search to newer used machines(late 80s or 90s) with 3000 hours or less - so I don't have to immediately enter the overhaul phase.

pitch 32 and "surprise" on right steering clutch l
Read the web link on pitch 32 threads. None of it makes sense for use on a bulldozer. I always thought these kind of threads were used on machine tools such as lathes for fine adjustments. Maybe the design engineer for the 350 thought you need fine adjustment on clutch links? design engineers can be...

ball joint breakage
I think the reason my clutch link ball joint broke off was because the brake band got loose and wasn't engaging (The adjusting bolt tends to back off). Pulling hard on the steering lever to get the brake engaged probably overstressed the clutch ball link since the clutch release was already bottomed...

Parts obsolescence
It was the clutch linkage we just talked about in another post. According to my parts guy, the AT 17364 ball joint /adjustment link is obsolete and was replaced with the newer 317916 which has the wrong thread pitch. He says the newer part is being maintained by JD only because it is also used on so...
