Okay the 2 problems were the detent between down pressure and float is wore out or it just doesn't have one and there is a fine line between neutral, down and float. Air in the cylinder was another problem. I got it to raise the front end up after I figured out where the right spot to hold the valve...

That's what I thought. I'm trying to decide which to tear into first. I've rebuilt tons of cylinders through the years but I don't think I've ever been in a valve. The blade lifts fine but leaks down very slowly when you let off the valve. It lowers fine but when it gets to the ground it starts bypa...

440 hydraulics

Mine has the hydraulic 6 way blade. Every other dozer I've ever run could lift the front of the machine up with down pressure from the blade. Is this the case with the 440? I think one of my lift cylinders is bypassing but I didn't want to tear into them if the machine wasn't capable of lifting itse...

Can you give a better time line? Your original post makes it sound like it was rebuilt and then sat for 2-3 years before you tried to get it running.

Yeah but it doesn't even have to be that high of a pressure rating. If you have a local industrial supply, they can probably hook you up.

So is it as simple as finding a PTO shaft and sliding it in?

That is a return line so not much pressure. You should be able to remove it and clean it very well maybe even burn the oil out with a torch and then JB weld. You could also slide a piece of hose over it and put clamps above and below the leak. That would get you going long enough to pop that stump o...

Check the blots where the trans mounts to the engine. There should be four bolts about that size. I had one that had backed out and was just setting in its hole waiting to fall out.

Having the injectors rebuilt cured my hard starting 440. Mine also has the lever next to the shifter but I don't have a clue what it does.

I did check and re dope all threaded fittings. The fuel filter housing is not factory. It's a spin on and I'm thinking that may be my problem. I did crank it yesterday after setting overnight with no problem. I may let it set a few days and see what happens.

Well after setting a couple of days I had to bleed the fuel system again. I can't for the life of me figure out where it is sucking air at. Any body got an idea?

Do yourself a favor and build a yoke like in the manual to remove the final drive. It makes it a ton easier to rotate the final to clear the track rail when you remove it.
