440 ICD loader counterwights for snow removal

I just removed the counterweights on my 440icd with 831 loader to fix a hydraulic fitting. Anyone have an opinion on weather or not to reinstall them for snow removal? Seems like it would just be extra weight to drag around for the winter. They'll go back on for summer either way.

Thanks!

I found the source or at least one of the sources of oil contamination in my left steering clutch. Who ever was in there last left the pipe plug out on the bottom of the clucth side of the final drive. Strait shot for oil to flow into the steering clutchs. What a waste.

Perfect. Thanks Lavoy. One other question.... When setting the pressure plates, I can't adjust the fingers up enough to contact the gauge. Best I can get with 8 steels and 8 fibers is 1/4 inch gap with the adjusting bolts bottomed out. If I pull one steel it can be adjusted to the gauge. If this is ...

Neoprene sleeve and maybe a few more 440 steering ?'s

I'm in the process of rebuilding both steering clutches on my 440icd. Both sides are dissasebled and I'm reassembling the quills and throw out bearing assemblies now. The service manual references adjusting the throw out rods then installing a neoprene sleeve but I see no sleeve nor do I see one in ...

I'm new to this forum but not detroit diesels. It has to be on the suction side before the pump. Check all of your fuel lines from the tank to the filter, the filter housing it's self, and the filter to the pump. If you have any felx or rubber lines, replace them. Any copper or steel flare fit lines...

The parts are on the way and I've been studying the service manual. I'm planning to pull the finals on Sunday. First step is to remove the fenders, associated loader parts and the tracks which I'm picking away at after work this week.

Hello

Hello everyone. Just this week I purchased a 440icd with an 831 loader. I've gleaned a ton of info off of this board and I'm glad to be a member now. The crawler needs some work but it's not a basket case as far as I know. Both steering clutches are contaminated with oil so digging into that first. ...
