Re: John Deere 350/450 value

I am in central Pennsylvania, and was in the market for a 450E 2 years ago. I found one with 3200 hours, pins just turned in the U/C and new sprockets. Rest of U/C is 75% or better. Paid $12,700. I have put 150 hours on it the past 2 years, zero issues.

Re: 450E fuel delivery, help I'm scared

Just in case anybody reads this, years down the road, it was on a hard enough slope that it was not getting fuel. I was doing a bunch of flat work or near flat work, wanted to move it out of the way of the lasers so i put it on a bank, 30* angle with the right side of the dozer downhill. I put 14 ga...

450E fuel delivery, help I'm scared

Been doing a lot of earthmoving, I figured it was getting low on fuel. Parked it on a 30* bank and hopped off to check my grades. When I came back the engine had stalled. Won't start. I pulled the fuel dipstick, had 2" on it. Please tell me the fuel is drawn from the center of the tank or even the l...

Detergent in oil. Reminds me of a funny story from my childhood. A buddy of mines Camaro had internally broken shift linkage on a turbo 350 tranny. He dropped the pan (draining 99.9% of the ATF) and was about to tack it fast with a stick welder, when he asked me "Do you think it will catch fire?" I ...

I am new to the dozer game, I just bought a 450E in early December. When I was sniffing around asking about hours per undercarriage % on here, I was generally told 4000 hours on 100% undercarriage. I believe driving habits, soil and type of work greatly effect that though. I'm in central Pennsylvani...

I'd do some more shopping. At least for cost comparison reasons. Also, do you want/need the winch? It could easily be peddled for a couple grand. I personally wouldn't buy a dry clutch machine, not when there's so many wet clutches out there. But finding a machine with 95% undercarriage for 9k is ra...

We (my family and everyone I know) have always ran 15-40 engine oil in our diesel farm tractors, road trucks, pickup trucks, and construction equipment regardless of temperatures. Never new it was 'dangerous' until a few days ago, in this thread. As far as the multiple rebuilds, possibly the quality...

Oldmetalmender, don't fear an in-frame overhaul, unless you are 'portly'. The orings do go bad, but the sleeves erode too, so just bite the bullet and replace them. I have NEVER used a sealant on a head gasket. If everything is straight and true, there is no need. If it isn't straight and true, make...

This is not the technique I have seen. The mechanics I saw do it years ago used grouser stock of a variety one might use to replace worn off grousers. The stock was cut 1/4 the width of the pad, and added to the top of the grouser. If I recall pads with two pieces were held in 1/2" from each end, t...

Market dictates price. Pretend you are buying one, in your location, your condition, time of year, etc...... Check the classifieds, internet, dealers, auctions, and see what they're commanding. If you're in remote Alaska, you are sitting on a gold mine.

Check your local codes as to how they deal with 'Picnic Pavillions.' Around here if you keep it under 24', leave the sides open, and no electricity, it falls outside of codes, just an $80 permit, no assessment. Every municipality is different. I love my country and agree we should all pay taxes, but...

Notmeu, it is welded to the base of the pad, perpendicular to the grouser, an attempt to curb sliding sideways on a hill

Bought a dozer today! The family friend and I looked at 3 over the past few weeks, and this was the nicest we found. Pins and bushings were turned this summer along with new drive sprockets. It fired right up, idled nice on a 28 degree day. He worked the piss out of it and couldn't get the reverser ...
